Job summary

The Hire Place LLP is seeking a practical Multi-skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment on a permanent back shift (2pm–10pm). The role focuses on keeping production machinery running efficiently and reducing downtime.

You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance on conveyors, gearboxes, bearings and motors, diagnose faults, and support continuous improvement while following safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical maintenance background in manufacturing or production.
• Multi-skilled with basic electrical fault-finding ability.
• Confident using a multi-meter and working safely around electrical systems.
• Able to identify key electrical components (contactors, relays, inverters, etc.).
• Practical, common-sense approach to maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on production machinery.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults efficiently.
• Support breakdown response to minimise downtime.
• Work on conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, motors and general plant machinery.
• Assist with basic electrical fault finding where required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and reliability projects.

This is a permanent back shift role, offering a consistent routine without nights or weekends - ideal for someone who prefers later starts and a structured working pattern.

The role is mechanically biased, focusing on keeping production machinery running efficiently, minimising downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on production machinery
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults efficiently
• Support breakdown response to minimise downtime
• Work on a variety of equipment including conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, motors, and general plant machinery
• Assist with basic electrical fault finding where required
• Contribute to continuous improvement and reliability projects
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures
