Job summary

ATA Recruitment is seeking a Maintenance Engineer for a highly automated distribution facility in South Wales. The role offers a £53,000 salary including shift allowance, a 4-on, 4-off days and nights pattern, and 12-hour shifts.

You will maintain a range of automated equipment and take ownership of reliability improvements. You'll join a skilled team of maintenance engineers, performing planned preventative maintenance and reactive fault finding across electrical and mechanical systems,

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years' experience in an automated environment.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of Siemens S7 PLCs.
  • Passion for engineering and continuous improvement.
  • Desire to belong, develop and contribute to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance across highly automated equipment.
  • Responding to reactive breakdowns and carrying out effective fault finding.
  • Working across both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Inspecting, cleaning and lubricating mechanical components.
  • Diagnosing faults involving motors, sensors, control panels and conveyors.
  • Working with chains, sprockets, bearings and gearboxes.
  • Carrying out basic PLC diagnostics and checking I/O on Siemens S7 systems.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting root cause analysis and helping to prevent repeat failures.
  • Working closely with operators to maintain equipment reliability.

If so we have an excellent opportunity to join the team at the highly automated distribution facility of world's largest FMCG companies

The Role

You’ll join a team ofexperienced Maintenance Engineers working on a wide range of automated material-handling equipment, including:

  • Automated cranes
  • Roller and chain conveyors
  • Lift tables
  • Rotation tables
  • Shuttle cars
  • Motors and gearboxes
  • Sensors and control panels

The role is approximately75% planned preventative and 25% reactive maintenance, giving you the opportunity to work proactively while still getting involved in hands‑on fault finding on a range of mechanical and electrical components across the site

What You’ll Be Doing

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is confident working in an automated environmentand enjoys getting hands‑on with both electrical and mechanical equipment.

You’ll ideally have:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineeringor equivalent
  • At least2 years' experience working in an automated environment
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding skills
  • An understanding of PLCs, ideally Siemens S7
  • A genuine passion for engineering and continuous improvement
  • Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who wants tobelong, develop and make an impactwithin the team.
