Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within fire safety, building compliance, facilities management or a similar maintenance environment.
  • Good understanding of fire safety systems and life safety equipment.
  • Ability to identify defects and accurately record inspection findings.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled compliance inspections across multiple sites throughout the North West.
  • Inspect communal and flat entrance fire doors in accordance with current fire safety legislation and Regulation 10 Fire Safety (England) Regulations.
  • Conduct functional checks of fire alarm systems and detectors, Automatic Opening Vent (AOV) systems, and verify that fire safety systems are operating correctly and free from faults.
  • Test alarm sounders and associated equipment to ensure they provide effective warning to occupants.
  • Raise remedial works for any defects or compliance issues identified during inspections.
  • Liaise with internal teams and clients regarding findings and required corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate asset records and documentation.

Description

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for carrying out planned compliance inspections and functional safety checks across multiple sites to ensure fire safety systems and life safety equipment are operating correctly and remain compliant with current legislation and company standards.

The role focuses on proactively identifying defects, faults, or non-compliance relating to fire detection systems, fire doors, emergency lighting, warden call systems, and associated life safety equipment. The engineer will accurately record findings, report issues, and raise remedial actions where necessary to ensure the continued safety of residents and building occupants.

The primary objective is to verify that all safety systems are functioning as intended, ensuring compliance and helping maintain a safe environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Carry out scheduled compliance inspections across multiple sites throughout the North West

Inspect communal and flat entrance fire doors in accordance with current fire safety legislation and Regulation 10 Fire Safety (England) Regulations.

Conduct Functional Checks Of:
  • Fire alarm systems and detectors
  • Automatic Opening Vent (AOV) systems
  • Verify that fire safety systems are operating correctly and are free from faults.
  • Test alarm sounders and associated equipment to ensure they provide effective warning to occupants.
Inspect fire doors to confirm:
  • The correct fire rating for their location.
  • Correct installation with acceptable gaps and seals.
  • No damage that would compromise fire performance.
  • Hinges, closers, locks and other ironmongery operate correctly.
  • Intumescent strips and smoke seals are present and in good condition.
  • Glazing (where fitted) is appropriate and installed correctly.
  • Appropriate signage and identification are in place.
  • Complete inspection reports accurately using company systems and handheld devices.
  • Raise remedial works for any defects or compliance issues identified during inspections.
  • Liaise with internal teams and clients regarding findings and required corrective actions.
  • Ensure all inspections are completed in accordance with company procedures and relevant British Standards.
  • Maintain accurate asset records and documentation.
  • Follow all Health & Safety policies and safe working practices while on site.
  • Represent the company professionally when working on client premises.
Qualifications and Experience
