Job summary

Imperium Recruitment LTD has a opening for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer in Hertfordshire. The role focuses on maintaining and improving reliability of automated material-handling equipment in a highly automated distribution centre.

You will perform planned preventive maintenance and reactive repairs, fault-find across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and automated systems, and work with Operations to maximise equipment availability.

Qualifications

• Qualified to Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in automation, distribution, logistics, FMCG or manufacturing.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding abilities.
• Comfortable in fast-paced uptime-critical environments.
• PLC experience would be advantageous.
• Proficient using CMMS or similar maintenance system.
• Good communicator with Engineering and Operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on automated equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults and restore service.
• Fault-find across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and automated systems.
• Maintain conveyors, sortation systems, motors, drives, sensors, and gearboxes.
• Record maintenance activities and parts usage in CMMS.
• Support engineering projects and maintenance shutdowns.
• Ensure health, safety and housekeeping standards.

Are you a motivated Maintenance Engineer looking for your next position?

We are currently recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team in a highly automated distribution centre based in Hertfordshire.

We are looking for an experienced electrically biased engineer with strong multi-skilled capability who enjoys fault-finding, solving problems and keeping complex automated systems running at peak performance.

Working as part of team, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the reliability and availability of a wide range of automated materials-handling equipment. You will carry out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs, helping to minimise downtime and ensure the distribution operation continues to run safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities for a Maintenance Engineer

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across automated equipment and site systems.
• Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns, diagnosing faults and restoring equipment to service.
• Fault-find across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and automated systems.
• Maintain equipment including conveyors, sortation systems, motors, gearboxes, sensors, drives and automated handling machinery.
• Use electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation to diagnose faults.
• Identify recurring faults and contribute to root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.
• Accurately record maintenance activities, faults and parts usage through the CMMS.
• Work closely with Operations to maximise equipment availability and minimise disruption.
• Support planned engineering projects, upgrades and maintenance shutdowns.
• Maintain high standards of health, safety and housekeeping at all times.

Experience and Qualifications required for a Maintenance Engineer

• Qualified to Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
• Experienced in a maintenance engineering environment, ideally within automation, distribution, logistics, FMCG or manufacturing.
• Strong in both electrical and mechanical fault-finding.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where equipment uptime is critical.
• Confident diagnosing faults independently and making sound engineering decisions.
• Familiar with conveyors, sensors, motors, drives, pneumatics and automated machinery.
• PLC experience would be advantageous.
• Comfortable using a CMMS or similar maintenance-management system.
• A good communicator who can work effectively with both Engineering and Operations teams.
