Job summary

Gap Technical Ltd in Northampton is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a busy, highly automated warehouse. You will maintain, fault-find and improve automated materials handling systems to maximise equipment performance.

This role requires strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills, experience with conveyors or automated equipment, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance. NVQ3/BTEC qualifications preferred; 4 on, 4 off shift.

Qualifications

• Experience as a maintenance engineer in industrial/manufacturing or distribution.
• Strong fault-finding in electrical and mechanical domains.
• Experience with automated equipment and conveyors.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance on automated warehouse equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime.
• Support maintenance of conveyor systems, motors, drives, sensors and related machinery.
• Respond to breakdowns with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement for reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with health and safety procedures and site standards.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report recurring faults.

Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Location: Northampton

Salary: £56,500 per annum

Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off days and nights

We are looking for a motivated and technically strong Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a busy, highly automated warehouse and distribution operation in Northampton.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced environment where engineering reliability is critical to keeping operations running efficiently. You will play a key role in maintaining, fault-finding and improving automated materials handling and distribution systems, minimising downtime and maximising equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across automated warehouse equipment and systems.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults to minimise operational downtime.
• Support the maintenance of conveyor systems, automated handling equipment, motors, drives, sensors and associated machinery.
• Respond to breakdowns, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety procedures and site standards.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report recurring faults.

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience in a multi-skilled maintenance engineering role within an industrial, manufacturing, logistics or distribution environment.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience working with automated equipment, conveyor systems or materials handling machinery.
• A proactive approach to breakdown response, problem-solving and preventative maintenance.
• Relevant engineering qualifications, such as an NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent.
• Comfortable working a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern in a fast-paced operational environment.
