Job description

Our DS Smith Packaging site in Devizes is searching for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, ideally with a mechanical bias. You will work closely with engineering colleagues, Operations, OEMs, and vendors to develop and implement best practices and increase plant and asset reliability.

The role is hands-on and fast-paced, requiring you to carry out duties related to Preventative Maintenance schedules. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will ensure all tasks are completed to the highest standards and in accordance with current regulations and company policies on health and safety, quality, hygiene, housekeeping, delivery, and cost.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring all maintenance activities meet quality standards regarding workmanship, processes, and procedures to achieve plant quality targets.
  2. Following and implementing company procedures and controls related to maintenance costs to meet plant cost performance targets.
  3. Performing preventative and breakdown maintenance and providing reports.
  4. Identifying and sourcing parts through the engineering stores.
  5. Carrying out dynamic risk assessments for all maintenance tasks.
  6. Controlling stocks of materials and consumables.
  7. Familiarity with stop devices and procedures on all equipment under your charge.
  8. Maintaining awareness of the shared responsibility to keep factory areas up to standard and ensuring your team understands their responsibilities.

Shift details: 4 on and 4 off shifts (2 x 12-hour day shifts followed by 2 x 12-hour night shifts). You will not work Saturday nights and will work an average of 40.5 hours per week.

Candidate requirements:

  • Sound engineering experience in a maintenance environment, with a preference for mechanical knowledge.
  • An electrical or mechanical apprenticeship with multi-skilled knowledge.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Experience with autonomous maintenance practices.
  • The ability to work independently and in small teams.
  • Strong fault-finding skills and knowledge.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems (SAP) is advantageous.
