Job summary

gap technical are representing a market-leading manufacturing business recruiting a Shift Cover Maintenance Engineer near Wrexham. The role offers shifts of 8–12 hours (days/nights) with a pay rate of £30.00–£40.00 per hour.

The successful candidate will have a time-served engineering apprenticeship, experience in FMCG/packaging manufacturing, and proven fault-finding skills on 3‑phase electrical systems with drives and I/O PLCs. Strong communication and planning abilities are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have completed a time-served engineering apprenticeship.
• Background in FMCG/packaging manufacturing is an advantage but not required.
• Able to fault find on 3‑phase electrical systems, drives and I/O PLC faults.
• Strong communication and planning skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and perform scheduled maintenance.
• Minimise downtime and support the nominated production area.
• Fault find effectively using machine history and documentation.
• Train operators to carry out minor maintenance tasks and assist in major repairs.
• Maintain and repair machinery to a high standard and contribute to continuous improvement.

Shift Cover Maintenance Engineer

£30.00 - £40.00 Per Hour

8- 12 HR Shifts Days/Nights

This work is ideal for Engineers that are looking for additional income whilst working shifts or Engineers that are looking for Part Time work

Performance Objectives

• To support the manufacturing process by responding effectively to equipment breakdowns, carrying out scheduled maintenance work and being proactive on the correction and modification of reoccurring machine processing faults.
• To respond effectively to equipment breakdowns and ensure maximum focus is given to their nominated production area
• To fault find in an effective and efficient manner whilst utilising the various machines historic / information documentation
• To establish harmonious relations with the operational staff and to work flexibly with them
• To train operational team members to perform minor maintenance tasks and to assist in major repairs
• Ensuring that machinery is maintained and repaired to a high standard.
• Pro-active in the reduction of engineering downtime and continuous improvement of the process and the department.

Person Specification

• The successful candidate will ideally of completed a Timeserved engineering apprenticeship
• A background in FMCG/Packaging Manufacturing will be a distinct advantage however not a prerequisite.
• Ability to Fault Find on 3 Phase Electrical Systems, Drives an I/O PLC Fault Finding
• You must be an excellent communicator and be able to plan and organise efficiently.
