Job summary

YG Engineering Ltd invites a hands-on Maintenance Engineer to join our food manufacturing site in Whitchurch. You’ll be responsible for PPM, breakdown response, installation and continuous improvement across plant and equipment, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

Working as part of a tight-knit engineering team, you’ll drive safety, efficiency and uptime with strong fault-finding, welding and fabrication skills, in a fast-paced production environment. 49k-51k per year.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance skills, including fault-finding.
• Experience with TIG and Arc welding.
• Pipe fitting, fabrication and general maintenance abilities.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and work calmly under pressure.
• Excellent communication and proactive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance across all plant and equipment.
• Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimise downtime.
• Install, maintain and improve manufacturing machinery.
• Undertake fabrication and repair work including TIG and Arc welding.
• Carry out pipe fitting and general maintenance activities.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality and waste reduction.
• Lead engineering activities during breakdown situations.
• Ensure all work is completed safely per health and safety procedures.

We are recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a successful and growing food manufacturing business. Working as part of a close-knit engineering team and reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you'll play a vital role in ensuring plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently and with minimal downtime.

The Opportunity

This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You'll be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, machinery installation, breakdown response and continuous improvement projects across a busy manufacturing facility. You'll have the autonomy to take ownership of issues, contribute ideas and help drive engineering standards forward.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities across all plant and equipment


• Respond to breakdowns quickly and effectively to minimise production downtime


• Install, maintain and improve manufacturing machinery and production equipment


• Undertake fabrication and repair work including TIG and Arc welding


• Carry out pipe fitting, servicing and general maintenance activities


• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality and waste reduction


• Lead and coordinate engineering activities during breakdown situations


• Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company health and safety procedures

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience in a Maintenance Engineer, Service Engineer or Multi-Skilled Engineer role


• Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment


• TIG and Arc welding experience


• Pipe fitting, fabrication and general maintenance skills


• Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving ability


• Ability to work calmly under pressure and prioritise effectively


• Strong communication skills and a proactive, can-do attitude

Desirable Experience

• FMCG or food manufacturing experience


• Knowledge of meat processing environments


• Experience with electrical systems, motor drives, hydraulics and pneumatics


• City & Guilds Engineering qualification or equivalent


• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office


• Understanding of food processing operations and manufacturing best practices
