Job summary

Holt Engineering seeks a Maintenance Equipment Engineer for a modern manufacturing facility in Basingstoke, a major UK electronics contract manufacturer. You will maintain SMT/PCB processes, repair key production equipment and drive uptime using planned maintenance and CMMS systems.

The role requires hands-on electrical, electronic, pneumatic and control-system fault-finding, strong communication with contractors, and a proactive approach to equipment availability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Carry out hands-on repairs and maintenance across site services and production equipment.
• Fault-find on SMT equipment including Reflow Ovens, Pick & Place, Conformal Coating, AOI and inspection systems.
• Diagnose faults across electrical, electronic, pneumatic and control systems.
• Develop and implement planned maintenance schedules using a CMMS.
• Manage contractors, including permit-to-work and engagement.
• Build relationships with local contractors and engineering service providers.
• Raise purchase orders and control costs within budget.
• Develop critical spare-parts lists for equipment.
• Support plant relocations and equipment installations across FM and SMT operations.
• Escalate maintenance issues to management when required.

Job description

I am recruiting on behalf of my client for a Maintenance Equipment Engineer to join their modern manufacturing facility in Basingstoke. My client is a major UK-owned contract electronics manufacturer, providing electronics manufacturing and supply-chain services to technology businesses across the UK and Europe, supporting sectors including commercial, space, defence, transport, audio, motorsport and instrumentation.

This is a hands-on engineering opportunity within a world-class facility, where the Maintenance Equipment Engineer will be responsible for supporting equipment maintenance, breakdown repairs and preventative maintenance schedules. A key focus will be maximising equipment uptime, availability and OEE while ensuring maintenance activities are effectively planned and controlled.

As the Maintenance Equipment Engineer, you will also work closely with specialist contractors and third-party providers, supervising maintenance and repair activities where external expertise is required.

Key responsibilities

• Carrying out hands-on repairs and maintenance across key site services and production equipment.
• Fault finding on Reflow Ovens, SMT Pick & Place machines, Conformal Coating systems, AOI and inspection equipment.
• Diagnosing faults across electrical, electronic, pneumatic and control systems.
• Developing and implementing planned maintenance schedules using a tracking/CMMS system.
• Managing contractors, including permit-to-work issue and engagement.
• Building productive relationships with local contractors and engineering service providers.
• Raising purchase orders through procurement while controlling costs and adhering to budget requirements.
• Developing critical spare-parts lists for equipment.
• Supporting plant relocations and equipment installations across FM and SMT operations.
• Escalating equipment and maintenance issues to the management team when required.

Required qualifications

• Experience within SMT/PCB manufacturing processes and associated equipment.
• Previous experience maintaining surface-mount equipment.
• Strong electrical, electronic, pneumatic and control-system fault-finding capability.
• IOSH or evidence of a robust health and safety background.
• Manufacturing experience, including customer-facing exposure.
• The ability to control maintenance spend while achieving uptime requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills when working with colleagues and contractors.
• Good IT skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• A full driving licence.
