Rosebank House in Reading is seeking a Part-Time Maintenance Assistant to lead on site maintenance, safety, and a welcoming environment for service users, staff and visitors. The role covers repairs, basic DIY, decorating, safety checks, and overseeing gardens, with flexible hours 25 per week, typically 9:00am–2:00pm, Monday to Friday.

You will manage contractors, coordinate with the site Manager, and ensure buildings are safe and compliant.

Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance roles with supervisory or lead responsibility preferred.
• Ability to perform general repairs, decorating, and safety checks with attention to detail.
• Strong communication and coordination when working with contractors and the wider team.

Responsibilities

• Lead on maintenance at Rosebank House, ensuring buildings, facilities and equipment are kept safe and fit for purpose.
• Perform day-to-day repairs, basic DIY and decorating; plan and document safety checks and maintenance schedules.
• Liaise with the Manager on faults, defects and maintenance plans; supervise contractors on site and complete required paperwork.

Join Rosebank House in Reading as a Part‑Time Maintenance Assistant, where you will take the lead in keeping the site safe, well‑maintained, and welcoming for some of the most vulnerable people in society. This is a hands‑on role covering all aspects of general site maintenance. You'll be responsible for day‑to‑day repairs, basic DIY and decorating, planned maintenance checks, health & safety audits, and overseeing the upkeep of the gardens and outdoor areas. You'll also manage contractors for specialist work, ensuring everything on site is safe, compliant, and kept to a high standard. This is a part‑time position working 25 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 2:00pm with flexibility on how these hours are worked, which can be discussed during the hiring process. As the lead for maintenance at Rosebank House, you'll be the go‑to person for all building and site‑related matters, working closely with the wider team to provide a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for service users, staff, and visitors. You'll receive all the training you need to get started and join a supportive team where you can make a real difference every day. There is a requirement to complete a fully paid one‑week induction, with travel expenses covered.

This is a standalone role at Rosebank House, supported by a network of peers and colleagues across local Elysium Healthcare sites.

• Being the main responsible person for all maintenance aspects of Rosebank House, ensuring that the buildings, facilities, and equipment are maintained and fit for purpose.
• Utilising strong DIY and practical skills to ensure the safety and comfort of service users is maintained.
• Planning, conducting, and documenting regular safety checks, audits, and maintenance schedules.
• Leading on the repair, maintenance, and decorating of all buildings within Rosebank House.
• Liaising with and reporting directly to the Manager on all faults, defects, and maintenance plans.
• Coordinating, supervising, and supporting all contractors whilst on site, completing all necessary paperwork and tool checks.

Have proven experience within a maintenance role, preferably with some supervisory or lead responsibility.

• Comply with all health & safety systems and procedures.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
• Show courtesy and respect to residents and colleagues at all times to ensure the highest quality of service.
• Attend and participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
• Be proactive, organised, and able to prioritise a varied workload.

People who come to Rosebank House have normally come from a hospital environment or have been sectioned under the Mental Health Act (1983).

You will be working at the modern, purpose-built home with 13 en-suite bedrooms, it is specifically designed with facilities to fully prepare patients for independence in the community. The focus of the service is on independent living skills as well as social inclusion, education and employment engagement. There are close links with the local community for residents to access local college, work placements and amenities. Rosebank House is located in Caversham, Reading, just off Henley Road, with easy access via Sonning Bridge and Reading Bridge.

The hospital is well connected, with Reading train station around 10 minutes away by car and direct rail services to London Paddington, Oxford, Bristol and Birmingham. Regular bus services run along Henley Road, and there is convenient access to the A329, A4 and M4, making commuting from Reading, Wokingham, Bracknell, Maidenhead and the surrounding areas straightforward. The site is also within easy reach of Reading town centre and local amenities.
