Job summary

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Maintenance / Handyperson within the PLACE Team to undertake maintenance and technical cleaning across the estate. The role involves working with HVAC knowledge and building maintenance, with a focus on patient safety and ward comfort.

Based at Salford Royal and travel to other sites within the Trust may be required. Core hours are 08:00–16:00, 37.5 hours per week, with occasional overtime for emergencies.

Qualifications

• Experience with HVAC systems or building maintenance background.
• Ability to carry out maintenance and repairs with minimal supervision.
• Experience using hand and power tools in a busy environment.
• Comfort working in a healthcare setting and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, reactive repairs and technical cleaning across the estate.
• Support planned preventative maintenance and respond to issues in wards and departments.
• Work with Estates team to maintain building finishes (walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, roofs).
• Attend training as required and occasionally offsite residential courses.
• Drive Trust vehicles as required and work overtime for emergencies.

Job description

Based at Salford Royal Hospital (but will include travel to other sites within the NCA Trust), the role will involve undertaking maintenance and technical cleaning duties across the estate and working closely with the other members of the tradestaff teams.

As a member of the PLACE Team, you will have a maintenance / handyperson knowledge of HVAC systems or building related background including painting and decorating. You will have experience of using hand and power tools, working at heights from steps / platforms and be able to carry out maintenance, repairs and installation on a range of estates structural and fabric components/elements with minimum supervision throughout the Trust.

You will also act as the Trust representative in the absence of the Estates Officer/Supervisor when requested to do so as and when the need arises by line management.

Due to the wide range of services provided by the estates team, there is a comprehensive training package in place, allowing all our staff to be fully trained and competent in their role. This will, on occasion, require the post holder to attend various training courses that may involve a limited amount of offsite residential training.

The PLACE Teams' responsibilities, in support of the Estates Managers, consist of assisting in carrying out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and technical cleaning work to provide a comprehensive maintenance service to all wards and departments in a multi- disciplined environment ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards, policies and procedures.

You will be working on the full range of estates building finishes to resolve issues many of which have a direct impact on patient safety, patient, visitor and staff experience and the hospital environment.

You will be expected to be able to complete minor repairs and other works on a range of components in the Trust's building portfolio, including Internal walls, floors, ceilings, windows and doors and external areas and roofs.

The post holder will be confident and understanding of the live healthcare environment and willing to learn processes which aid the ability to work in such an environment.

The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, core hours being 0800-1600.

From time to time you will be expected to work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required.

You will be expected and be able to drive Trust vehicles as and when required.
