Job summary

TXM Recruit is partnering with a prominent automation and intralogistics company to hire Automation Assistants for an established site in Milton Keynes. The role supports on-site maintenance engineers with basic troubleshooting and learning mechanical and electrical competencies.

The position operates on a 6am-6pm/6pm-6am shift with a Suez pattern, and requires readiness to work at height and follow safety and PPE protocols. Training to progress in mechanical/electrical engineering is encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Ideally completed training in either mechanical or electrical engineering (L2) or currently working towards a L3 qualification.
  • Numerate, literate and verbal communication.
  • Able and responsible to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work at height via ladder or steps.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Results orientated.
  • Customer focused.
  • Physically able to fulfil the role.
  • Experience in a warehousing, engineering or automation environment would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support onsite maintenance engineers with basic troubleshooting of equipment both mechanically and electrically.
  • Start of shift checks ensuring equipment is fit for use.
  • Rectify time-out faults using the manual controllers (Pendant or HMI panel).
  • Learn how to maintain systems and complete basic jam busting on distribution equipment such as conveyors and automated storage and retrieval systems.
  • Follow safety procedures when working on and around the Automated Mechanical Handling Equipment, such as isolation of adjoining equipment, and following the "safe entry procedure" & use of correct PPE.
  • Use access equipment in and around the system to rectify product flow issues.
  • Investigate the reasons and re-start the system after an emergency stop (non-technical errors).
  • Completion of dynamic risk assessments along with ensuring that onsite communication protocol is followed to ensure smooth operation of the facility.
  • Further communications to be translated via the shift handover, i.e. toolbox talks, meeting with Engineering colleagues, to enable the Automation assistant to relay any concerns and/or problems within the Automated Materials Handling equipment

The role will involve supporting onsite maintenance engineers with basic troubleshooting on automated distribution equipment, learning both mechanical and electrical competencies.
