Job summary

Retail Trust in London seeks a Maintenance Assistant to support the Maintenance and Compliance operations across the Mill Hill estate. You will assist in repairs, grounds maintenance, painting, and safety duties, ensuring a safe, well-kept environment for residents and staff.

The role requires a calm, methodical approach; a trade qualification is desirable but not essential. DBS clearance is required and flexible coverage for holidays is expected.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working in a maintenance role, or similar.
  • A trade qualification would be desired, but it is not essential.
  • Sensitive to the needs of elderly residents.
  • Ability to be aware of health and safety and fire precautions.
  • Willingness to undertake training such as moving and handling, fire safety and first aid.
  • Flexibility to cover holidays and emergencies.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication, building relationships with residents and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Undertaking maintenance and repairs tasks as directed using appropriate equipment and own skills.
  • Work with Estate Gardener to maintain grounds and gardens to high standards.
  • Undertake painting and decorating on the Estate as required.
  • Assist in inventory of equipment and ensure safe storage and maintenance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely record keeping using IT systems.
  • Assist in cleaning walls, ceilings, extractor hoods and move furniture and equipment.
  • Undertake compliance checks in communal areas, tenanted and void properties.

£10,774.40 per annum (£14.80 per hour)

14 hours per week

2 days per week (to be agreed) 9am - 5pm

We are looking for a committed individual to join our Marshall Hall team at our Mill Hill estate. You will support the Maintenance and Compliance Operative and Estate Manager , ensuring that standards of maintenance and repairs service to the homes and communal areas including grounds and gardens on the estate are maintained, making it a safe environment for our residents and staff.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that health and safety requirements are maintained and appropriate records are kept up to date at all times.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking maintenance and repairs tasks as directed, utilising correct equipment and own repairs skills.
  • Working alongside the Estate Gardener to ensure that the grounds and gardens are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Undertaking any painting and decorating on the Estate as required.
  • Assisting in the inventory of equipment and ensuring ongoing maintenance and safe storage of equipment.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely record keeping using IT systems as instructed.
  • Assisting in the cleaning of walls, ceilings, extractor hoods as well as the movement of furniture and equipment.
  • Undertaking compliance checks in communal areas, tenanted and void properties.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Experience of working in a maintenance role, or similar.
  • A trade qualification would be desired, but it is not essential.
  • Sensitive to the needs and concerns of elderly people living on the estate.
  • Ability to be aware of health and safety and fire precaution procedures.
  • Enthusiasm to undertake training where required, such as moving and handling, fire safety and first aid.
  • Flexibility and willingness to cover holidays where required and attending the estate in an emergency.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication, building effective relationships with residents, colleagues and external organisations.
  • Ability to be aware of and use safe working practices.

You will require a calm personality, working accurately and neatly to solve daily maintenance issues in a timely manner. This role is subject to appropriate DBS check.
