Job description

About Us

JA Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort is a peaceful countryside retreat and soulful escape – your haven of Scottish charm, spa indulgence, and championship golf. Recently, Mar Hall proudly joined JA Resorts & Hotels, a heritage hospitality brand with award-winning properties across Dubai, the Maldives and Scotland.

This exciting new chapter brings global expertise, world-class standards, and new opportunities for our teams. As part of the JA family, you’ll be connected to an international network of talent, innovation, and career development, all while helping us honour the warm, authentic spirit that makes Mar Hall truly special.

Set within 240 acres of woodland on the banks of the River Clyde, our resort features elegant bedrooms and suites, a championship golf course, a luxury spa and wellness experience, and exceptional dining shaped by creativity and Scottish provenance. Together, we are elevating the resort into one of the UK’s most exceptional luxury destinations and you can be part of it.

Role Overview

As we continue to elevate our luxury offering and guest experience, we are looking for a practical, enthusiastic and hardworking Maintenance Assistant to join our Engineering and Maintenance Team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work and wants to contribute to the upkeep and presentation of one of Scotland’s distinctive luxury resorts.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will support the day-to-day maintenance and general upkeep of the resort, ensuring our guest bedrooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities and wider property remain safe, functional and beautifully presented.

This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days will be quite the same. You will work alongside our Engineering and Conditioning colleagues, helping with general maintenance, minor repairs, preventative maintenance and property improvement projects.

Key responsibilities of the Maintenance Assistant will include:
  • Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs throughout the resort.
  • Supporting basic plumbing, joinery, furniture repairs and other practical maintenance tasks within your skills and competence.
  • Responding promptly to maintenance requests from guest bedrooms and operational departments.
  • Assisting with planned preventative maintenance checks and inspections.
  • Helping maintain the presentation and condition of guest bedrooms, corridors, public areas and back-of-house spaces.
  • Supporting painting, decorating, furniture care and general property conditioning work when required.
  • Assisting with the preparation and upkeep of resort facilities and external areas.
  • Identifying defects and reporting issues requiring specialist attention.
  • Working closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage and other departments to minimise disruption to guests.
  • Following all relevant health and safety procedures and ensuring work is completed safely and professionally.
  • Supporting the wider Engineering Team with improvement projects and the ongoing care of our historic property.
The Ideal Maintenance Assistant:

We would love to hear from someone who has:

  • Previous experience in general maintenance, property upkeep, facilities maintenance or a relevant trade.
  • Practical skills in minor repairs, basic plumbing, joinery, decorating or general building maintenance.
  • Confidence using hand tools and appropriate maintenance equipment.
  • A proactive attitude and good problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and genuine pride in the appearance of a property.
  • A reliable, flexible and hardworking approach.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive and professional attitude when working around guests and colleagues.
  • An understanding of safe working practices and the importance of working within their competence.

Experience working in a hotel, resort or heritage property would be an advantage, but is not essential.
