About Us

JA Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort is a peaceful countryside retreat and soulful escape – your haven of Scottish charm, spa indulgence, and championship golf. Recently, Mar Hall proudly joined JA Resorts & Hotels, a heritage hospitality brand with award-winning properties across Dubai, the Maldives and Scotland.

This exciting new chapter brings global expertise, world-class standards, and new opportunities for our teams. As part of the JA family, you’ll be connected to an international network of talent, innovation, and career development, all while helping us honour the warm, authentic spirit that makes Mar Hall truly special.

Set within 240 acres of woodland on the banks of the River Clyde, our resort features elegant bedrooms and suites, a championship golf course, a luxury spa and wellness experience, and exceptional dining shaped by creativity and Scottish provenance. Together, we are elevating the resort into one of the UK’s most exceptional luxury destinations—and you can be part of it.

Role Overview

The Bar Supervisor is responsible for supporting the effective day-to-day operation of the bars and lounge areas at JA Mar Hall, with a particular focus on the Gallery Bar and Lounge, ensuring consistently high standards of beverage preparation, service, presentation and guest experience.

Reporting to the Assistant Food & Beverage Managers and Food & Beverage Services Manager, you will provide hands‑on supervision of the bar team during allocated shifts, ensuring colleagues are appropriately briefed, organised, supported and delivering service in line with the standards expected of a five-star luxury resort.

This is a highly practical, guest‑facing position requiring excellent beverage knowledge, strong cocktail‑making skills, attention to detail and the confidence to lead by example.

You will support the continued development of the resort’s beverage offering, contributing ideas for cocktails, seasonal drinks, product presentation and service improvements, whilst working within the direction and commercial objectives set by F&B management.

Although the Gallery Bar and Lounge will be a primary focus, the role requires flexibility to support beverage service across the wider resort, including Meetings & Events, weddings, banqueting and other Food & Beverage areas as required.

Key responsibilities of the Bar Supervisor include:

Bar & Lounge Operations

  • Supervise the day‑to‑day bar and lounge operation during allocated shifts.

  • Lead from the front, remaining actively involved in beverage preparation and guest service.

  • Ensure the bar is properly prepared, stocked, clean and organised before each service.

  • Allocate duties and stations to colleagues in line with operational requirements.

  • Ensure opening, closing and shift handover procedures are completed correctly.

  • Maintain high standards of bar and lounge presentation, including glassware, equipment, menus, furniture and service areas.

  • Monitor service flow and respond proactively during busy periods.

  • Ensure guests are served promptly, professionally and with genuine hospitality.

  • Identify operational concerns and communicate them promptly to the Assistant F&B Managers or F&B Services Manager.

  • Ensure all areas are left clean, organised and ready for the next service.

Cocktail Preparation & Beverage Standards

  • Prepare and serve cocktails, wines, spirits, beers, hot beverages and non‑alcoholic drinks to consistently high standards.

  • Maintain excellent knowledge of classic cocktails, contemporary drinks and appropriate preparation techniques.

  • Ensure all drinks are made to approved recipes, specifications and measures.

  • Maintain consistency in flavour, temperature, presentation, garnish and glassware.

  • Ensure appropriate preparation and availability of cocktail ingredients, garnishes and other beverage supplies.

  • Monitor drink quality throughout service and correct inconsistencies immediately.

  • Support the introduction of new drinks and seasonal beverage offerings.

  • Contribute ideas for cocktails and drinks that reflect the character and luxury positioning of JA Mar Hall.

  • Support tastings, product trials and the development of new beverage specifications.

  • Ensure approved drinks are prepared consistently by all trained colleagues.

Guest Experience

  • Deliver warm, attentive and personalised hospitality to every guest.

  • Be visible and approachable throughout service.

  • Build positive relationships with returning guests and recognise individual preferences where possible.

  • Provide confident, knowledgeable and appropriate beverage recommendations.

  • Support guests in choosing cocktails, wines, spirits and non‑alcoholic alternatives.

  • Ensure VIPs, special occasions and individual guest requirements are appropriately recognised.

  • Anticipate guest needs and respond promptly to requests.

  • Handle routine guest concerns professionally, taking ownership of resolving issues within your authority.

  • Escalate more complex matters to F&B management promptly.

  • Work closely with Front Office and Guest Experience colleagues to support a seamless resort experience.

Forbes & Luxury Service Standards

The Bar Supervisor will play an important role in ensuring bar and lounge service consistently reflects the luxury standards JA Mar Hall is working towards.

You will:

  • Demonstrate Forbes-aligned service behaviours during every shift.

  • Ensure service is polished, attentive, natural and personalised.

  • Maintain high standards of professional appearance, communication and guest interaction.

  • Support colleagues in understanding and following the required service sequences.

  • Monitor beverage presentation and service consistency.

  • Correct service issues constructively and promptly.

  • Support preparation for internal and external service assessments.

  • Participate in training and improvement initiatives arising from guest feedback or quality reviews.

  • Help ensure standards remain consistent during both quiet and busy periods.

Stock Control & Bar Organisation

  • Monitor stock availability during allocated shifts.

  • Ensure bars are adequately stocked for expected business levels.

  • Assist with stock requisitions, ordering and replenishment as directed by F&B management.

  • Ensure products are stored correctly, securely and in accordance with relevant procedures.

  • Follow stock rotation and date‑checking requirements.

  • Support stocktaking and inventory checks.

  • Monitor wastage, spillages, breakages and stock discrepancies.

  • Ensure accurate pouring and approved measures are followed.

  • Report stock shortages and unusual variances promptly.

  • Maintain clean, organised and appropriately labelled storage areas.

  • Take care of bar equipment, glassware and other departmental resources.

Meetings & Events, Weddings & Banqueting Support

  • Support beverage operations for meetings, weddings, conferences, banquets and private functions as required.

  • Assist with the preparation and setup of event bars.

  • Ensure appropriate stock, glassware, equipment and garnishes are available.

  • Follow event business sheets and instructions provided by the relevant managers.

  • Support beverage service during functions and busy operational periods.

  • Help maintain consistent beverage presentation and quality outside the Gallery Bar.

  • Assist with clearing, stock reconciliation and resetting event bars following functions.

  • Communicate shortages, operational concerns or guest requests promptly.

  • Work collaboratively with the Meetings & Events team to ensure successful service delivery.

Wider Food & Beverage Support

Although bar and lounge service is the primary responsibility of this position, JA Mar Hall operates as one resort and all Food & Beverage colleagues are expected to support the wider operation.

You will therefore:

  • Assist restaurant service during busy periods where required.

  • Support Meetings & Events and Banqueting operations.

  • Assist with other Food & Beverage outlets when operationally necessary.

  • Adapt to changing business demands and departmental priorities.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across all F&B areas.

  • Maintain flexibility whilst continuing to uphold high beverage and service standards.

Health, Safety, Licensing & Compliance

  • Follow all relevant health, safety, food hygiene and licensing requirements.

  • Comply with Scottish alcohol licensing legislation and the resort’s responsible alcohol service procedures.

  • Ensure drinks are prepared and served safely and responsibly.

  • Follow appropriate procedures for age verification and refusal of alcohol service.

  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and cleanliness.

  • Ensure glassware, bar equipment and machinery are used safely.

  • Follow correct cleaning and chemical handling procedures.

  • Ensure allergen information is communicated accurately and in accordance with hotel procedures.

  • Report hazards, defects, incidents and unsafe conditions promptly.

  • Support the completion of required cleaning and operational checks.

  • Promote safe working practices throughout every shift.

Service Culture – Warm, Real & Fresh

As Bar Supervisor, you are expected to demonstrate JA’s service philosophy consistently and help bring it to life through the colleagues you supervise.

Daily energisers, meaningful briefings and continuous coaching on the job should be part of the way you support the team.
