Job summary

Howmet Aerospace Inc. is seeking a committed Apprentice for the Tool Room and Maintenance team in Redditch. You will learn to maintain manufacturing machinery and site services both electrically and mechanically, following a planned maintenance schedule and 5S standards.

The programme includes Make UK-funded qualifications, practical Foundation Training and a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Knowledge, with in-house training aligned to company requirements.

Qualifications

• GCSE Grade 4 (or higher) as the basic entry requirement.
• Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Knowledge.
• In-house and Make UK training programmes fully funded by the employer.
• Additional qualifications deemed necessary by the employer during the apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective and efficient service to maintain manufacturing machinery and site services electrically and mechanically.
• Respond to breakdowns following the priority system.
• Record breakdown and task information on completion using the Piranha system.
• Undertake servicing of machines and ancillary equipment per schedules.
• Carry out facility repairs and maintenance as required.
• Source and obtain parts and materials per procurement procedures.
• Maintain stock levels of spares and consumables and update registers.
• Ensure tools and equipment are available and 5S standards are maintained in the workshop.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a committed individual to join our business, with 57 global locations, at an exciting period of growth. The right candidate will be supported throughout the programme as we seek to share expertise to aid learning. The Tool Room and Maintenance Departments are essential functions of the business that provide day to day support to new machinery the business is investing in. The skills obtained during this apprenticeship will path a solid foundation into a career within a leading Global Aerospace Industry.

Maintenance Element

• To Provide an effective and efficient service to ensure all manufacturing machinery and site services are maintained both electrically and mechanically through the planned maintenance schedule.
• To respond to breakdowns through in line with the priority system
• Determine cause of potential failure or performance deterioration, and either complete remedial work during shift or brief subsequent shift on issue, cause and recommended solution
• To record breakdown and task information on completion of repair or improvement using Piranha system.
• To undertake servicing of machines and ancillary equipment as per the relevant schedules
• To carry out facility repairs and maintenance as per the schedule or as and when required
• To source and obtain parts and materials as required following the procedures of the procurement system
• To maintain the relevant stock levels of spares and consumables reviewing and updating the register
• To ensure the correct tools and equipment are available to carry out the tasks and repairs
• To ensure 5S standards are always maintained in the maintenance workshop

Qualifications

Please note that according to the new grading system, the new equivalent of a GCSE C Grade is a Grade 4 (with a Grade 5 being the equivalent of a high C/low B).

Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gainseveral academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us and Make UK, which are fully paid for, including:

Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Practical Foundation Training – in year 1, in 6 week blocks to include 4 weeks at Make UK and 2 weeks in company
Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Workplace CompetenceTraining - in years 2 to 4 in company
Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Knowledge - in Years 2 & 3 on block release to Make UK
In house training in line with your requirements.
