Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking experienced SEND specialist Teaching Assistants to join mainstream primary schools on a full-time basis. You will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to support pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD and SEMH, delivering targeted support to individuals and groups.

You will contribute to EHCPs and individual plans, implement specialist strategies, and help pupils with communication, confidence and independence.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEND in a school or similar setting.
• Specialist knowledge in autism, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient with a can-do approach.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Right to work in the UK and eligible to work as a Teaching Assistant.
• Enhanced DBS check on Update Service or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support to help pupils access the curriculum.
• Contribute to the delivery and review of EHCPs and individual support plans.
• Use specialist strategies, positive behaviour approaches and de-scaling techniques in line with school policies.
• Support pupils' communication, confidence, independence and personal care where needed.
• Deliver structured interventions and tailored programmes to support learning and development.
• Promote social skills and positive relationships with peers.
• Work in partnership with teachers, parents and external professionals such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists.

SEND Specialist Teaching Assistants: Mainstream Primary Schools, Full Time

About the Role

You will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to support pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, sensory needs, and learning difficulties. Depending on the placement, you may support individual pupils, small groups or whole classes.

You will:

• Provide targeted one to one and small group support to help pupils access the curriculum
• Contribute to the delivery and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support plans
• Use specialist strategies, positive behaviour approaches and de-scaling techniques in line with school policies
• Support pupils' communication, confidence, independence and personal care where needed
• Deliver structured interventions and tailored programmes to support learning and development
• Promote social skills and positive relationships with peers
• Work in partnership with teachers, parents and external professionals such as speech and language therapists and educational psychologists
• Adapt quickly to new pupils, routines and school environments

About You

• Proven experience supporting children with SEND in a school or similar setting
• Specialist knowledge of one or more areas of need, such as autism, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language difficulties
• A patient, empathetic and resilient approach
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• A genuine commitment to inclusion and pupil wellbeing
• Right to work in the UK
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one
