Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment in Erdington is seeking a SEND/SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of needs in mainstream and specialist schools. Full-time and part-time roles available, with flexible working and competitive weekly pay.

You will provide 1:1 and small-group support, assist with autism, ADHD, SEMH and complex needs, and help pupils engage in learning while following individual plans and EHCPs.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in educational or SEND settings.
  • Caring, patient and resilient approach to support pupils.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness to learn and develop SEND knowledge and skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND/SEMH needs.
  • Support pupils with Autism, ADHD, MLD, SLD, PMLD and complex learning needs.
  • Help pupils access learning and engage positively in the classroom.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and work with teachers/SENCOs.
  • Follow learning plans, EHCPs and behaviour support strategies.
  • Support pupils with communication, sensory and additional learning needs.
  • Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Help pupils build confidence, independence and essential life skills.

Are you a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs?

Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting SEND and SEMH Teaching Assistants to work across a range of welcoming mainstream and specialist schools throughout Erdington.

We have opportunities available for experienced Teaching Assistants, as well as individuals with relevant transferable experience who are looking to develop their careers within education and SEND.

You will play an important role in supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism (ASC/ASD), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, learning difficulties and complex needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity to help young people overcome barriers to learning, develop their confidence and independence, and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a SEND/SEMH Teaching Assistant, you may be supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups or within the classroom, depending on the needs of the school and individual learners.

Your responsibilities may include:
  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND and SEMH needs
  • Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, MLD, SLD, PMLD and complex learning needs
  • Helping children access learning and engage positively within the classroom
  • Supporting emotional regulation, positive behaviour and social development
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral support teams
  • Following individual learning plans, EHCPs and behaviour support strategies
  • Supporting pupils with communication, sensory and additional learning needs
  • Creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Helping pupils build confidence, independence and essential life skills
What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an educational or SEND setting
  • A caring, patient and resilient approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Reliability, flexibility and the ability to work as part of a wider school team
  • A willingness to learn and develop your SEND knowledge and skills
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Desirable Experience:
  • Previous experience within SEN schools, mainstream schools, alternative provisions or PRUs
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, MLD, SLD or PMLD
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, Team Teach or other communication and behaviour support strategies
  • Experience working with children or young people with EHCPs
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications or training
