Job summary

Strive Supply Chain is seeking an MPI & FPI Technician to perform magnetic particle and fluorescent penetrant inspections at the Birmingham lab. The role supports aerospace and casting industries, with Monday–Friday shifts (AM/PM) and a c£32k base plus a 17% shift bonus and benefits.

You will interpret results, calibrate equipment, and produce clear records while ensuring compliance with AS9100 and NADCAP requirements. A Level II NDT certification and aerospace experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Certification as NDT Level II per ASNT or NAS 410.
  • 2–5 years aerospace NDT experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and work instructions.
  • Familiarity with NADCAP requirements and aerospace quality systems.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria per aerospace specs (ASTM, AMS, NADCAP).
  • Set up and calibrate NDT equipment per procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain inspection reports, logs and certifications.
  • Ensure compliance with NADCAP and customer requirements.
  • Train and mentor Level I technicians as required.
  • Maintain safe, clean work area and equipment per regulations.
  • Participate in audits (internal, customer, regulatory).

Our client is a leading lab-based testing partner to companies operating in the world's most highly-regulated industries. They are one of the fastest growing testing, inspection and certification businesses in the world.

They are seeking a qualified and motivated MPI & FPI Technician to join their inspection team supporting the aerospace and casting industries at their laboratory in Birmingham.

This is a Monday to Friday based role, with morning and afternoon shifts (AM / PM).

Role Overview

The MPI & FPI Technician performs non-destructive testing (NDT) using magnetic particle and fluorescent penetrant inspection techniques to identify surface and near-surface discontinuities in components, materials and assemblies. The role ensures inspections are completed safely, accurately and in accordance with approved procedures, customer requirements, applicable standards and the organisation's quality system. The Technician produces clear, traceable records and communicates findings promptly to support product integrity, regulatory compliance and customer

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret inspection results and determine accept/reject criteria per aerospace specifications (e.g., ASTM, AMS, NADCAP).

  • Assist in developing and reviewing NDT procedures and techniques.Train and mentor Level I technicians as required.
  • Maintain work area, chemicals, and equipment in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in audits (internal, customer, and regulatory).
Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications:

  • Certification as NDT Level II in one or more methods per ASNT or NAS 410 standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (technical degree preferred).
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in aerospace NDT or special processing.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace materials, processes, and defect mechanisms.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in aerospace special processing (plating, heat treating, coatings).
  • Prior experience in a NADCAP-accredited facility.
  • Multi-method Level II certification.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with quality systems such as AS9100.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills for reporting and data entry.
