We believe that doing the right thing fosters transparency, excellence, and a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

About The Role

Glass Atlas are looking for a Magento Backend Developer to join their Commerce Technology Engineering. As a Magento Backend Developer, you will work across a range of Magento/Adobe Commerce projects, primarily focusing on BAU development, maintenance, bug fixing and technical improvements.

This is a hands‑on role where you'll be expected to take ownership of problems, investigate issues and find solutions independently. You won't be expected to know the answer to everything, but you should be comfortable working things out, asking the right questions and getting stuck into unfamiliar problems.

Key responsibilities

The following should give you a flavour of how you will be spending your time. It is not set in stone and it may change from week‑to‑week, but it gives an idea of what is expected from the role:

Development & maintenance
  • Develop and maintain Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce functionality across a range of client projects.
  • Investigate and resolve bugs and production issues.
  • Build and maintain custom modules and integrations.
  • Make improvements to existing codebases while considering maintainability and upgradeability.
  • Support Magento upgrades, releases and ongoing platform maintenance.
Problem solving & delivery
  • Take ownership of BAU development tasks and see them through to completion.
  • Investigate unfamiliar code, systems and issues to understand the underlying cause.
  • Work independently to identify solutions, while knowing when to ask for support.
  • Explain technical approaches and decisions clearly, including the reasoning behind them.
  • Work collaboratively with developers, QA, project managers and other teams to deliver effective solutions.
  • Contribute to code reviews and help maintain development standards.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Here’s an idea of the type of experience we’re looking for, along with an idea of what we think would be useful to also know:

Essential
  • Commercial experience developing with Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce.
  • Strong PHP development experience.
  • Good understanding of Magento's architecture and development patterns.
  • Experience developing custom modules and integrations.
  • Comfortable investigating and debugging existing Magento codebases.
  • Good SQL/MySQL knowledge and an understanding of performance considerations.
  • Experience working with Git and modern development workflows.
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of problems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when dealing with unfamiliar issues.
  • Able to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, including clients, and explain the reasoning and trade‑offs behind technical decisions.
  • Experience troubleshooting production issues.
  • Experience working within an agency or multi‑client environment.
Desirable
  • Experience with Hyvä.
  • Experience with Magento Cloud / Adobe Commerce Cloud.
  • Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with third‑party integrations and APIs.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring other developers.

We're not expecting you to know every answer off the top of your head. We're looking for someone who can think on their feet, investigate effectively, communicate their reasoning and get things done.
