An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and motivated individual to join the Macmillan therapy team as a static Band 6 Physiotherapist within the Therapy department at Northampton General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire.

Do you have a special interest in working within cancer care? Do you have the skills and experience to work with the often complex medical, physical, psychological needs of those living with cancer?

This role will help you develop specialist clinical skills working within the Macmillan therapy team, as well as allowing you the opportunity to be involved in staff development, audit and service improvement.

We welcome applicants looking to further develop their band 6 skills within this specialist area.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 clinician within a joint therapy service, you will be required to take part in delivering a quality Therapy Service working closely with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team. You will need to have an enthusiastic attitude, be forward thinking and have a problem-solving approach to patient management. The ability to work within a fast paced and pressured environment is essential, along with having excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and demonstration of the ability to support other team members.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of Therapy assessment, intervention, discharge planning of patients with complex diagnoses and supporting goals to maintain dignity and quality of life. You will also need to work in collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide a patient-centred service, working to identify patient needs to facilitate a safe and timely discharge from hospital.

As a band 6, various training and development opportunities are available including protected time for CPD, and access to Macmillan resources to ensure that you are equipped with the competence and confidence required for this post.

Robust peer support from fellow Band 6s is encouraged and will have regular individual and team supervisions held monthly. You will have the opportunity to supervise staffto provide clinical support and guidance.

To manage a caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision, managing attendance of board rounds and ward meetings to contribute significantly to patient flow.

To be highly skilled in identifying pathways of patient care, discharge plans, and suitable discharge locations.

To provide high quality, evidence-based care to service users.

To work as an autonomous practitioner to formulate a diagnosis and management programme according to assessment findings, and to develop and maintain high standards of patient care.

To provide experienced advice, guidance and information within this area to patients, health and social care professionals, carers, relatives and other non-professionals.

Provide clinical support and access to advice and supervision for junior staff

Mentor physiotherapy students during clinical placements (MSc & BSc) providing support and regular supervision with support from the Practice Development Lead as required.

To be an integral member of the Macmillan oncology and haematology team, contributing to the management of the staff and service, with particular regard for all aspects of clinical governance, and to deputise for senior staff as required.

Education, Training and Qualifications

  • BSc Honours (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration.
