Job summary

Tata Steel in Corby is seeking a skilled Machinist to join the Engineering Shop. You will produce and repair one-off or small-batch components from engineering drawings, using lathes, milling machines and other workshop tools.

The role operates on an 8-hour shift pattern, rotating Days, Backs and Nights, within a modern facility relocated to a brand-new workshop. We offer a competitive salary (£39,484 with 15% shift allowance, rising after probation), holidays, annual pay review, a bonus scheme,

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or proven competence through experience.
• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds qualification or equivalent.
• Experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, and general workshop tools.
• Good understanding of safe systems of work.

Responsibilities

• Produce and repair one-off and small-batch components from drawings and specifications.
• Machine parts to tight tolerances using lathes, milling machines and workshop tools.
• Be based in a safety-conscious, supportive team on 8-hour shifts (Days/Backs/Nights) with a rotating pattern.

What you will do:

As a Machinist, you'll play a key role in producing and repairing one-off and small-batch components that are essential to our manufacturing operations. Working from engineering drawings and specifications, you'll machine parts to tight tolerances using lathes, milling machines, and other workshop tools. You'll be based in a supportive and safety-conscious team, working 8-hour shifts Monday to Friday. The role follows a weekly rotating pattern covering days, backs, and nights. You'll also be part of the journey as the Engineering Shop relocates to a brand-new workshop on site, with further upgrades on the horizon. It's a brilliant chance to work with modern equipment and play a part in shaping a first-class facility.

Required skills and experience:

• A time-served apprenticeship or proven competence through experience
• An NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds qualification, or equivalent
• Experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, and general workshop tools
• A good understanding of safe systems of work

It would also be an advantage if you have:

• A valid UK driving licence
• Experience with CNC machines

We will consider candidates with limited experience, provided they show the potential and willingness to develop. In these cases, an extended probation period may apply to allow time to build up the required skills.

Salary

£39,484 (£34,334 basic plus 15% shift allowance, rising to £35,088 basic plus 15% shift allowance on successful completion of probation period)

Shift Pattern

15 shift pattern Monday to Friday. Week 1 Days, Week 2 Backs, Week 3 Nights.

Holidays

30 days in first 12 months, rising to 34 days a year, plus an additional 6 days available.
