Job summary

Tata Steel Tubes Hartlepool is seeking a Mechanical Tooling Team Member to maintain and repair tooling for the 20” Pipe Mill, ensuring high performance and safety standards.

The role operates on a 10-shift pattern (06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00). You will perform preventive maintenance, overhauls, replacements, and keep records in a computer-based system, working closely with Production teams and Stores.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical apprenticeship in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to communicate with Production Team Leaders and Stores.
  • Systematic problem-solving approach and ability to prioritize activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on tooling and equipment.
  • Overhaul spares following tooling and size changes.
  • Replace bearings, fastenings and fixings; conduct wear checks.
  • Record information in the computer-based maintenance system.
  • Respond to line stops as part of a wider maintenance team.

The Role

A vacancy has arisen for a Mechanical Tooling Team Member to join the Operations team based at the 20” Pipe Mill, Hartlepool

Tata Tube Products are one of Europe’s leading pipe suppliers with a long and successful track record in the energy and construction industry. Our Mechanical Engineers operate on a scale and precision not even imagined by many other sectors. This is an opportunity to play a crucial role in the life cycle management of our unique equipment. You will maintain, install & build a huge range of machines, ensuring that high performance is maintained and that the highest safety standards are met.

The purpose of this position is to provide first-line technical expertise to manufacturing areas to ensure maximum availability of mechanical equipment within the 20” Mill.

This position will operate on a 10-shift pattern Monday to Friday 06:00-14:00 & 14:00-22:00.

As a Mechanical Tooling Team Member, you will responsible for the general upkeep of critical tooling required to produce a range of tube diameters. Main Duties will include, but not limited to, Preventative Maintenance regimes, overhauling of spares following tooling and size changes, including preparation for future sizes. Critical tasks include resolving Line Stops as part of a wider team & monitoring and replacing as required bearings, fastenings and fixings, forming rolls wear checks, replacement of cutting tools and recording information in a computer-based maintenance system.

You will be responsible for conducting all aspects of the job in a safe manner and adhere to statutory and mandatory safety regulations, procedures and policies. You will execute planned maintenance tasks effectively, working through the task schedule in order of priority.

You will be responsible for suggesting and implementing improvements to process control systems. Also to ensure that any deficiencies found are repaired expediently and that repairs are robust enough to prevent a recurrence. You will provide first line technical expertise and assistance to the Manufacturing areas to minimise plant downtime

The Candidate

Applicantsmust have a mechanical apprenticeshipgained in an industrial environment and also have experience of working effectively within a team. You should have a systematic problem-solving approach (accurate problem description, ability to rank potential causes in order and communicate next step activities).

It is essential that you have multi-level communications, with good interpersonal skills and an ability to articulate efficiently with a range of individuals on site. This will include liaising with. Production Team Leaders, Departmental Manager, Tooling Engineer and Stores personnel.
