Job summary

Siemens Energy in Lincoln is seeking a skilled General Machinist to set up and operate manual and CNC machines, producing precision parts for demanding aerospace and power-generation components.

You will read engineering drawings, measure parts, perform routine machine maintenance, and collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve machining issues while maintaining a clean, safe workspace. This role requires flexibility for shifts and overtime.

Qualifications

  • Recognised Level 3 apprenticeship preferred; NVQ3 or tech cert also considered.
  • Experience as a machinist in manufacturing with practical skills.
  • Proficiency operating lathes, borers and grinders.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machines to produce precision parts.
  • Read and interpret drawings, layouts and specs to determine operations.
  • Measure and visually inspect parts to ensure conformance to docs.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment.

Join our team as a skilled and experienced General Machinist, where you will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts. In this role, you will collaborate closely with production and engineering teams to ensure the highest quality standards are met. How You’ll Make an Impact
  • You will set up and operate both manual and CNC machinery, ensuring precision in every part produced.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, layouts, and specifications to determine machining operations effectively.
  • Measure and visually inspect completed parts to detect defects and ensure conformance to manufacturing documentation.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment to guarantee optimal performance and longevity.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve machining issues promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to health and safety procedures to promote a safe working environment.
What You Bring
  • Ideally, you have completed a recognized full level 3 apprenticeship; candidates with an NVQ level 3 or technical certificate in a relevant engineering field will also be considered.
  • Proven experience as a machinist in a manufacturing environment, showcasing your technical skills.
  • Proficiency in operating machine tools such as lathes, borers, and grinders, demonstrating your hands-on expertise.
  • Flexibility to work shifts and overtime as required, adapting to the needs of the production schedule.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and specifications, allowing you to execute tasks with precision.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, ensuring the highest quality output.
