Job summary

Siemens Energy is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the Supplier Support Team (SST). You will provide technical guidance through the pre-qualification and qualification processes, interpret complex specifications, and support concession decisions with drawing changes and BOM interpretation.

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Strong problem-solving using formal methodologies such as FTA, RCA, DMAIC, 5 Whys and 8D.
  • Autonomous work style with team collaboration.
  • Excellent communication with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient in data analysis, interpretation and reporting.
  • Clear, concise technical reports and supplier instructions.
  • Solid understanding of engineering drawings, specs and GD&T.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for pre-qualification and qualification processes.
  • Support Suppliers, Supplier Quality, Procurement and Manufacturing with technical guidance.
  • Make engineering judgements on components or assemblies deviating from spec.
  • Apply turbine engineering knowledge including tolerance stacks and BOM interpretation.
  • Support concession disposition and report writing, drawing modifications.
  • Investigate supplier non-conformances and drive containment solutions.
  • Liaise with Design Groups to ensure correct concession decisions.
  • Provide guidance and training to other teams as needed.

A Snapshot of Your Day

An Engineer within the Supplier Support Team’s (SST) role involves but is not limited to, day to day support for:

  • Technical support of the pre-qualification process.
  • Provide supplier support through the qualification process.
  • Providing technical support for general enquiries from Suppliers, Supplier Quality, Procurement and Manufacturing, making engineering judgements regarding components or assemblies that deviate from specification.
  • Apply general turbine engineering knowledge including design calculations, tolerance stacks, in-depth interpretation of technical specifications'. geometric tolerances, report writing, interpretation of Bills of materials (BOMS) and implications of change notes to support the disposition of the concession.
  • Helping Supplier Quality investigate supplier non-conformances, root cause analysis and introduction of containments and solutions.
  • Liaising with Design Groups to ensure concession decisions are correct when applicable.
  • Report writing, Drawing modification and creation, technical guidance of other teams.
  • Flexibility of working is required as per the business needs e.g. supporting a supplier out of normal working hours if required.
How You’ll Make An Impact
  • Your technical guidance within the pre-qualification process will help Supplier Quality to ensure that a stable and high-quality production process is established.
  • You will help enable practical solutions to supplier issues hence, ensuring the consistent flow of parts to the assembly line.
  • Your drawing modifications help enable parts to be manufactured that would otherwise adversely affect production.

  • Your technical decisions will directly affect the flow of new and conforming and non-conforming parts both into and though the factory.
What You Bring
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Good understanding of gas turbine operation and performance principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience applying formal methodologies such as Fault Tree Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, DMAIC, 5 Whys, and 8D. Confident in making informed decisions based on structured problem-solving outcomes.
  • Able to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a team environment and supporting colleagues where required.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations to large audiences and interact confidently with stakeholders at all levels of the business, as well as suppliers and customers.
  • Proficient in data analysis, interpretation, and presentation of findings.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise technical reports and supplier instructions.
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and their practical application.
  • Capable of performing mechanical engineering calculations, including tolerance stack-up analysis and the application of engineering units and measurements.
  • Basic understanding of materials and coatings used in gas turbine applications.
  • Experience of, or a strong understanding of, manufacturing processes.
  • Experience of, or a strong understanding of, assembly processes.
  • Proficient in the use of company-standard software packages, including Microsoft Office, Teamcenter, NX, and SAP.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), BS 8888, and ASTM standards.
  • Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement and problem prevention.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn, develop, and grow within the role.
