Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a hands-on Machining Cell Leader to oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy machining department within a precision environment in Port Talbot. You will coordinate with Production, Planning and Purchasing teams to ensure production targets are met and deliveries are on time.

Lead the department in the manager's absence and drive improvements in programming, setup, and quality, utilizing DMG Mori platforms and CAD/CAM tools to optimise workflows.

Qualifications

• Experience operating CNC machines in a production environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Skilled in using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with DMG Mori programming platforms (Celos, VPS) preferred.
• Knowledge of CNC machining processes and tooling.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Siemens NX or Mastercam.

Responsibilities

• Create and optimise CNC programs for DMG Mori machines using offline programming tools.
• Set up and operate CNC machines (lathes, mills, drills) according to job requirements.
• Load raw materials and verify tooling setup.
• Interpret technical drawings and ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments.
• Monitor machine performance and report issues promptly.
• Work closely with programmers and machining production manager to meet production schedules.

Hours of work are Mon - Thu - 08:00 - 16:45 and a lovely 2pm finish on a Friday.

Your main responsibility will be to oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy machining department within a precision environment.

You will be able to run department competently in the managers absence.
