Job summary

Adecco is partnering with a growing engineering business in North Yorkshire to recruit an experienced CNC Miller. The role focuses on precision machining, setup, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will read engineering drawings, program and operate CNC machines, and contribute to process optimisation while mentoring junior staff. This is a hands-on, shop-floor position with development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a machine shop or precision engineering environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Expertise working to tight tolerances across materials (steel, aluminium).
  • Experience programming, setting, and operating CNC machines.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with controls such as Heidenhain, Mazatrol, or Ultimax.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up, programming, and operating CNC and manual milling machines.
  • Interpreting technical drawings and executing precise machining operations.
  • Ensuring equipment is calibrated, maintained, and running efficiently.
  • Conducting quality inspections using precision measuring tools.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and driving machine performance improvements.
  • Monitoring production to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Completing work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
  • Collaborating with engineering and production teams to optimise processes.
  • Mentoring junior technicians and supporting team skill development.
  • Leading process improvements to boost productivity and reduce cycle times.

I'm currently partnering with a growing engineering business in North Yorkshire that is looking to add an experienced CNC Miller to their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about CNC machining and enjoys making a real impact within a manufacturing environment.


What You'll Be Doing:
As a vital member of the team, responsibilities will include:
  • Setting up, programming, and operating CNC and manual milling machines.
  • Interpreting technical drawings and executing precise machining operations.
  • Ensuring equipment is calibrated, maintained, and running efficiently.
  • Conducting quality inspections using precision measuring tools.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and driving machine performance improvements.
  • Monitoring production to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Completing essential documentation, including work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
  • Collaborating with engineering and production teams to optimise processes.

What We're Looking For:
Essential:
  • Strong experience in a machine shop or precision engineering environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Expertise in working to tight tolerances across various materials (steel, aluminium, etc.).
  • Experience programming, setting, and operating CNC machines.
  • Relevant qualifications in engineering (Apprenticeship, ONC/HNC) or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with controls such as Heidenhain, Mazatrol, or Ultimax.
Desirable:
  • CAD/CAM knowledge.
  • Lean manufacturing or 5S experience.
  • Experience in producing bespoke or one-off components.
  • Crane lifting certification.

Working Hours:

39 hours per week Monday - Friday typically 7:30am - 4:30pm Mon - Thursday and 7:30am - 12:30pm Friday
