Job summary

Hunter Selection is seeking a Machining Lead in Port Talbot to drive CNC manufacturing and lead a high‑quality machine shop. You’ll oversee tooling, programming interfaces, and process improvements to deliver high‑volume, precision components for fast-moving product lines.

You'll work with multidisciplinary teams to refine hardware and firmware integration, optimize workflows, and mentor shop floor colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating CNC machines in a production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Familiar with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Maximising effectiveness of machine tools to demand.
  • Drive productivity improvement on CNCs through better tooling, program design, use of automation.
  • Set up and operate CNC machines (lathes, mills, drills) according to job requirements.
  • Load raw materials and verify tooling setup.
  • Interpret technical drawings and ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments.
  • Monitor machine performance and report issues promptly.
  • Apply lean principles and suggest process improvements.

Requirements

  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
  • Proficiency in DMG Mori programming platforms (Celos, VPS). (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes and tooling.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Siemens NX, Mastercam).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and GD&T standards.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools.
