Job summary

Randstad Construction & Property is seeking a hands-on Machining Cell Leader to oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy machining department in a precision environment. You will collaborate with Production, Planning and Purchasing to hit targets and run the department in the manager’s absence.

The role requires CNC experience, ability to read drawings, and familiarity with DMG Mori and CAD/CAM tools. Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

Qualifications

• Experience operating CNC machines in a production environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Proficient with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers).
• Experience with DMG Mori programming platforms (Celos, VPS) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create and optimise CNC programs for DMG Mori machines using offline programming tools.
• Set up and operate CNC machines (lathes, mills, drills) according to job requirements.
• Load raw materials and verify tooling setup.
• Interpret technical drawings and ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments.
• Monitor machine performance and report issues promptly.
• Work with programmers and machining production manager to meet production schedules.

Hours of work are Mon - Thu - 08:00 - 16:45 and a lovely 2pm finish on a Friday.

Your main responsibility will be to oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy machining department within a precision environment.

You will be able to run department competently in the managers absence.

• strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• proficiency in DMG Mori programming platforms (Celos, VPS). (preferred)
• strong knowledge of CNC machining processes and tooling
• experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Siemens NX, Mastercam)
