Job summary

Moog Aircraft Group is seeking an apprentice-trained, experienced Machine Shop Operator at our Wolverhampton facility. You will set up and operate honing and lapping equipment, perform first-off inspections, and document quality measures to ensure tight aerospace tolerances.

The role requires proficiency with high-accuracy measurement tools, reading complex drawings, and a proven background in a machine shop environment.

Qualifications

• Recognised apprenticeship in engineering or manufacturing.
• Experience in an engineering/manufacturing role, ideally aerospace.
• Strong knowledge of machining techniques and tooling.
• High-accuracy measurement instruments and surface finish comparators.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust and operate manual honing/lapping stations and Auto-honing/Auto-lapping equipment.
• Perform first-off inspections and complete quality documentation.
• Measure finished parts using precision tools like air gauges, bore micrometers and roundness check machines.
• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications.

Moog Aircraft Group is looking for an apprentice-trained, experienced Machine Shop Operator at our facility based in Wolverhampton. At Moog, we're focused on the customer and for us, this means designing complex mechanical products that are often bespoke and high-profile. Our Machinists work to exceptionally close tolerance, an essential requirement of the aerospace industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate both manual honing/lapping stations and Auto-honing , Auto- lapping equipment
• Perform first-off inspections and complete necessary quality documentation.
• Measure finished parts using precision tools like air gauges, bore micrometers and roundness check machines
• Capability and competent in setting up and using machine tools
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, technical specifications
• Proven experience in a machine shop environment
• Competent in setting up and using machine tools

Key Experience

• Recognised engineering apprenticeship.
• Previous experience in an engineering/manufacturing role, ideally within the aerospace industry.
• Strong knowledge of machining techniques and appropriate tooling.
• Strong competency with high-accuracy measuring instruments and surface finish comparators.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and process improvement techniques.
• Proficiency in using relevant inspection techniques/equipment to achieve drawing tolerances.
• Over 5 years experience on manual honing /lapping equipment
