Job summary

Fusion People are currently recruiting for an experienced Machine Operator to join a busy substation construction project in Melksham. The successful candidate will operate heavy plant machinery safely and efficiently to support civil engineering and groundworks activities related to electrical infrastructure.

The role involves operating excavators, dumpers and rollers, performing pre-start checks, and working closely with site teams on health and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Valid CPCS or NPORS qualification.
• Experience operating machinery on civil engineering projects.
• Understanding of safe excavation around buried services.
• Team player with health and safety focus.
• Full UK Driving Licence preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate plant machinery including excavators, dumpers and rollers in a safe and efficient manner.
• Carry out excavation, trenching and grading works in accordance with project specifications.
• Assist with earthworks, ducting installation and groundwork activities.
• Conduct daily pre-start checks and routine maintenance on plant equipment.
• Work closely with site supervisors, groundworkers and engineering teams.
• Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety regulations and site procedures.
• Report any defects, hazards or safety concerns immediately.
• Maintain a clean and organised work area.

Pay: £25 – £28 per hour CIS or up to £21.14 PAYE
Start Date: 3rd November

Key Responsibilities

• Operate plant machinery including excavators, dumpers and rollers in a safe and efficient manner
• Carry out excavation, trenching and grading works in accordance with project specifications
• Assist with earthworks, ducting installation and groundwork activities
• Conduct daily pre-start checks and routine maintenance on plant equipment
• Work closely with site supervisors, groundworkers and engineering teams
• Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety regulations and site procedures

Requirements

• Valid CPCS or NPORS Machine Operator qualification
• Previous experience operating machinery on civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure or substation projects
• Good understanding of safe excavation practices around buried services
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Strong awareness of health and safety requirements
• Full UK Driving Licence preferred

• EUSR or National Grid Person qualifications
• Previous experience working on substations, power generation or electrical infrastructure projects
• First Aid at Work qualification
• Manual Handling certification
