Job Opportunity: Machine Operator / General Operative

Thrive Recruitment is seeking a Machine Operator/General Operative for our client located in Hesketh Bank near Tarleton and Southport (PR4 postcode area).

Company Overview

The client is a producer in the farming industry, specializing in various horticultural products.

Responsibilities

Machine Operator:

• Ensure all safety measures are in place and functioning (emergency stops, safety guards, health and safety protocols).
• Maintain machines in good working order.
• Perform light maintenance tasks (oiling, greasing, tightening chains, changing parts).
• Verify machine performance (correct planting depth, adequate compost, proper box assembly).
• Set and monitor the machine's operating speed.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and management.

General Operative:

• Pack plants, ensuring correct quantities, labels, and handles are applied before dispatch.
• Check and maintain plant quality according to supervisor standards, removing non-conforming plants.
• Inspect plants for sufficient watering before planting.
• Perform quality control checks, including planting at correct depth, position, and amount.
• Ensure handles and labels are correctly applied and secured.
• Handle plants carefully to prevent damage during placement on trolleys or trailers.
• Assist in training new employees.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Wear the provided PPE at all times.
• Maintain a steady work pace to keep up with the team.
• Keep the work environment clean and organized.
• Follow company policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

Additional Details

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 6am to 5pm. Some Saturdays may be required during peak season. Work hours may vary, with some days ending earlier or later.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

Role Duration: Long-term, with a permanent position offered to the right candidate.

Pay Rate: £13.00 per hour.

Requirements: Candidates must be able to travel to Hesketh Bank/Tarleton area near Southport and have relevant experience.
