Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc in Devizes, Wiltshire, is seeking Machine Operators to join the Power Transmission & Distribution team. You will assist in installing HV Cable Systems and related accessories on major infrastructure projects, while upholding health, safety and environmental standards.

Ideal candidates will have experience with manual handling, hand tools, and excavator operation up to 8 tonnes, with flexibility to work away from home and be based in Wiltshire or nearby.

Qualifications

• Experience in manual handling/physical environment.
• General knowledge of health and safety requirements.
• Experience in using hand tools.
• Ability to follow functional instructions in English language both spoken and written.
• Experience of driving Excavators up to 8 tonne.
• Experience of deep excavations.
• Ability to work away from home.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the installation of HV Cable Systems and associated accessories.
• Set personal examples in all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
• Report all accidents, dangerous occurrences and near miss incidents.
• Ensure all carriageway and footway excavations are correctly signed guarded and lit.
• Cleanliness and security of all vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Operate machines safely to excavate in carriageways.
• Maintain and upkeep of machines.
• Complete daily plant sheets.
• Carry out duties under the instruction of the Banksman.

Balfour Beatty currently has exciting opportunities for Machine Operators to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (Power T&D) business based in Devizes, Wiltshire.

This is an excellent opportunity to join one of the UK's leading infrastructure businesses, working on major power projects that help deliver critical energy infrastructure across the region. Ideally, candidates will be based in Wiltshire or the surrounding areas.

What you'll be doing

• To assist in the installation of HV Cable Systems and associated accessories
• Set personal examples in all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental standards
• Report all accidents, dangerous occurrences and near miss incidents
• Ensure all carriageway and footway excavations are correctly signed guarded and lit
• Cleanliness / Security of all vehicles, plant and equipment
• The safe and competent operation of machines to excavate in carriageways
• Maintenance and upkeep of machines
• Completion of daily plant sheets
• Carrying out duties under the instruction of the Banksman

Who we're looking for

Essential

• Experience in working with manual handling/physical environment
• General knowledge of health and safety requirements
• Experience in using hand tools
• Ability to follow functional instructions in English language both spoken and written; carrying them out reliably and efficiently
• Experience of driving Excavators up to 8 tonne
• Experience of deep excavations
• Ability to work to instructions of Banksman
• Willingness to work flexibly in other roles as part of the gang
• Ability to work away from home

Desirable

• Full UK Driving Licence
• Former experience with working on carriageway works
• Operative street works card
• Ability to operate 180 and 360 tracked and wheeled excavators
