M&E Technician – Critical Facility Maintenance (Shift)

Job summary

Equans is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Technician to join our busy facilities maintenance team in Birmingham. You will perform PPM and reactive maintenance across M&E systems in a large, complex environment.

This contract role runs from 19 Oct 2026 to 10 Jan 2027, with 38-42 hours per week on a 4 on/4 off shift including days and nights. You will diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and help with minor installations while ensuring health and safety and accurate record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Recognised Mechanical or Electrical apprenticeship and relevant trade qualifications.
• Experience in building services maintenance within commercial, healthcare, industrial, or critical environments.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned and reactive maintenance on building services equipment.
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs to minimise downtime.
• Maintain HVAC systems, pumps, motors, boilers, ventilation systems, and associated plant.
• Carry out refurbishment, installation, and minor projects as required.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance issues.
• Conduct statutory inspections, testing, and compliance-related activities, including PAT testing where required.
• Work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
• Ensure all works are completed in accordance with health & safety procedures and safe systems of work.
• Complete maintenance documentation and update records accurately.
