Job summary

Damicor Ltd is recruiting an experienced M&E Estimator to join their team in Dartford, Kent. You will manage the estimating and tender process from initial enquiry through to final submission and handover to the project delivery team.

The role requires interpreting drawings and specifications, producing accurate net estimates, and developing robust cost breakdowns while responding to tender clarifications and exclusions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in mechanical and electrical contracting.
• Strong estimating experience with mechanical and/or electrical packages.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the estimating process for commercial fit-out, refurbishment and new-build projects.

The Opportunity

Damicor are currently recruiting for an experienced Estimator to join a well-established M&E engineering services provider delivering mechanical, electrical and fabric refurbishment and fit-out projects across London and the South East. The Estimator will take responsibility for managing the estimating and tender process from initial enquiry through to final submission and handover to the project delivery team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced M&E Estimator looking to join an established business where they can play a key role in securing profitable new work and contribute to the continued growth of the company.

Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Tender Management

• Lead the estimating process for commercial fit-out, refurbishment and new-build projects.
• Manage tenders from receipt of initial enquiry through to final submission.
• Review and assess tender documentation and project requirements.
• Analyse drawings, specifications and project information to develop accurate estimates.
• Prepare compliant tenders, including appropriate clarifications, assumptions and exclusions.
• Produce accurate net estimates with clear and comprehensive cost breakdowns.
• Ensure tenders are prepared and submitted within agreed timescales.
• Maintain an understanding of market conditions and competitive factors.

Subcontractor & Supplier Engagement

• Obtain competitive quotations from appropriate subcontractors and suppliers.
• Review and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Clarify scope, exclusions, qualifications and commercial assumptions.
• Ensure sufficient quotations are obtained to support robust estimates.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of supplier and subcontractor market conditions.

Commercial & Risk Management

• Identify project risks, opportunities and scope gaps during the tender process.
• Ensure identified risks are appropriately considered within estimates.
• Identify opportunities for value engineering and alternative solutions.
• Challenge costs and assumptions where appropriate to improve tender competitiveness.
• Ensure estimates accurately reflect project scope and contractual requirements.
• Support the commercial assessment of potential projects.
• Provide clear information to support tender adjudication and decision-making.

Technical & Project Understanding

• Review mechanical and electrical drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Develop a strong understanding of the technical requirements of each project.
• Ensure estimates reflect the proposed construction methodology and project requirements.
• Consider health and safety, quality and environmental requirements within tender submissions.
• Work collaboratively with project delivery teams to ensure estimates are practical and achievable.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
• Attend pre-contract interviews and tender meetings where required.
• Respond to client queries and requests for clarification.
• Present and explain tender assumptions, exclusions and commercial considerations.
• Support negotiations through to successful tender award.
• Represent the business professionally throughout the tender process.

Tender Handover & Project Support

• Support the transition from successful tender to the project delivery team.
• Clearly communicate tender assumptions, exclusions, risks, opportunities and commercial considerations.
• Assist the delivery team in understanding the basis of the agreed estimate.
• Support procurement activities following project award.Provide estimating and commercial input during project mobilisation where required.
• Ensure relevant tender documentation is accurately retained and transferred.

Experience & Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• Minimum of 3 years' experience working within a mechanical and electrical contractor.
• Strong previous estimating experience.
• Experience estimating mechanical and/or electrical projects.
• Good understanding of mechanical and electrical building services.
• Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
• Strong commercial awareness.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong negotiation and decision-making skills.
• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a project team.
• A self-motivated and ambitious approach to career development.

Desirable

• Recently qualified or working towards a relevant estimating qualification.
• HNC/HND or equivalent building-services qualification.
• Experience estimating both mechanical and electrical packages.
• Experience within commercial fit-out, refurbishment or new-build projects.
• Experience attending pre-contract interviews and supporting tender negotiations.
