Job description

M&A Assistant Director - Financial Services

Description: Ideas People Trust - We're BDO. An accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today's changing world. We work with Britain's economic engine - ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited, high-growth businesses - and directly advise their owners and management teams.

Our Advisory team offers a wide range of services that deliver value-led advice and outcomes. They possess deep knowledge of business, industry sectors, and markets, and are adept at understanding the risks and opportunities at our clients' core. The team operates across strategy, operations, and improvement, as well as transactional and project-specific work, including technology and risk advisory, executing top-level instructions and resolving detailed issues straightforwardly.

Joining us means working on some of the world's most exciting financial operations and business deals, building your experience alongside industry leaders. We support your success by fostering strong client relationships based on understanding and trust. We value proactive individuals who can manage their tasks effectively and collaborate with colleagues and senior stakeholders. You will be encouraged to identify opportunities to improve our services and delivery.

The primary responsibility of an Assistant Director is to oversee daily project delivery and develop sustainable, profitable client relationships. You should have solid experience in corporate finance, especially in buy-side and sell-side transactions involving private and public companies, owner-managed businesses, and private equity firms. Sector knowledge development is also expected.

You will need to have:

  • Experience advising on buy-side and sell-side transactions, leading projects to successful completion with private companies, owner-managed businesses, and private equity clients.
  • ACA/ACCA qualification (or equivalent) or relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience in staff supervision or management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Word and Excel.
  • If involved in plc activities, developing knowledge of relevant regulatory regimes.
  • Relevant sector experience.

We value mutual support and respect, core to BDO's culture. We offer mentoring, coaching, and a flexible working framework to support your career development. Our collaborative spaces and resources foster teamwork, idea sharing, and continuous learning. We are committed to helping entrepreneurial businesses succeed and to investing in our people, ensuring a vibrant, innovative future.
