Job description

Join Biffa as a Logistics Coordinator in Sherburn – help keep our operations moving smoothly and efficiently every day.

A quick look at the role.

To manage all logistics operations and administrative tasks at the Biffa Polymers Sherburn PET recycling plant, ensuring seamless coordination of raw material imports, supplier communications, and equipment procurement. The role encompasses oversight of stock records, shipping logistics, supplier invoicing, and general administrative duties to support efficient plant operations.

Your Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the import of hot-washed PET flakes from global suppliers, ensuring all customs and compliance requirements are met.
  • Manage stock records for raw materials, finished goods, and consumables across internal and external warehouses, including regular checks and FIFO rotation.
  • Create production plans based on customer orders, raw material levels, and manufacturing capacity, ensuring timely fulfilment and dispatch.
  • Book and manage haulage for all loads, ensuring accurate shipping documentation including weighbridge tickets and delivery notes.
  • Process delivery paperwork, match supplier invoices to deliveries, and resolve any discrepancies or non-conformance issues.
  • Raise purchase orders for raw materials, consumables, and site supplies, manage supplier onboarding, and maintain timely deliveries.
  • Compile accurate reports on stock levels, shipping performance, and production activity, ensuring timely submission to stakeholders.
  • Support general site administration including reception duties, visitor management, mail handling, and document control for audits and reporting.

Our essential requirements.

  • GCSEs in English and Mathematics.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience in an administrative role, with some involvement in import coordination.
  • Relevant qualifications in logistics, supply chain, or customs & import (e.g. CILT, FIATA) are desirable.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Business Administration or similar is advantageous.
  • Experience in logistics coordination within a manufacturing or recycling environment, and advanced IT skills (e.g. Power BI, SharePoint), are desirable.
