Birmingham Children's Hospital, part of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, invites applications for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Hand and Upper Limb Surgery. FRCS Plast or equivalent required, with strong interest in children’s hand surgery. Training for European/UK diplomas encouraged and supported.

Role includes on-call duties (1:6), teaching, training junior staff, and participation in research and governance within a leading UK paediatric centre.

Qualifications

• Education and Training: Full GMC Registration; Higher specialist training in Plastic Surgery or equivalent; 6 months hand fellowship; European Hand Diploma or British Hand Diploma finished or enrolled; Higher degree (MPhil/MD/PhD) or equivalent; Advanced Trauma Life Support.

Responsabilités

• Provide specialist Paediatric Hand and Upper Limb Surgery at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
• Assess and manage children with hand and upper limb and forefoot conditions, including elective and emergency presentations.
• Work with multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality, patient-centred care.
• Consultant on-call responsibilities for General Paediatric Plastic Surgery rota (1:6).
• Provide consultant-level clinical decision-making and support for urgent and emergency patients.
• Contribute to consultant cross-cover arrangements during leave and sickness in the hand service and general plastics on-call.
• Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and supervise junior doctors.
• Engage in clinical governance, quality improvement, and audit; take an active interest in research.
