Job summary

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a 6 to 12 month Clinical Fellow post in Paediatric Surgery with on-call Paediatric Urology duties at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The Fellow will work on the Resident Registrar Tier of the Paediatric Surgery and Urology on call rota, with cross-cover in Paediatric Surgery and collaboration with a large team of consultants.

Qualifications

• Possess MBBS or recognised equivalent.
• Experience in paediatric surgery/urology is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS check required.
• Candidates nearing end of paediatric surgery/urology training or recently completed.

Responsibilities

• Provide exposure to paediatric surgery and urology at a tertiary level.
• Cross-cover in paediatric surgery as required.
• Join the Resident Registrar Tier on the paediatric surgery and urology on-call rota.
• Collaborate with the department's 14 consultant paediatric surgeons and urologists.

Job description

Applications are invited for a 6 to 12 months Clinical Fellow post in Paediatric Surgery department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, one of the busiest in the United Kingdom. The post will be on the Resident (1 in 8) tier of Paediatric Surgery and Urology on call rota (depending on the experience of the successful applicant). The role will be primarily for a Paediatric Urology Fellow who is near the end of their training (or has finished) but will involve cross-cover in Paediatric Surgery. The Department of Paediatric Surgery and Urology consist of 14 Consultant Paediatric Surgeons and Urologists. We serve a regional population of over 5 million, as well as receiving supra-regional referrals for complex cases. In addition, two Paediatric Hepatobiliary and Transplant surgeons provide their training expertise.

The placement offers exposure to a wide range of Paediatric Surgery and Urology at tertiary level. Successful Candidates will join the team on the Resident Registrar Tier on the Paediatric Surgery and Urology on call rota (please see job description for a description of the tiered rota).

Applicants should possess either the MBBS or recognised equivalent European equivalent.

Due to the nature of the position, the successful applicant will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
