Job summary

Pulse is seeking a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join a busy Microbiology department in Central England on a locum basis. You will perform routine and specialist bacteriology investigations, ensure quality standards, and support patient care in a diagnostic environment.

HCPC registered and with strong bacteriology knowledge, you will work independently in a pressured lab, maintaining records and contributing to quality management while collaborating with clinical teams.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist (essential).
• Band 6 Biomedical Scientist experience in a UK Microbiology lab (essential).
• Strong Bacteriology knowledge and practical lab experience (essential).
• Ability to work independently in a busy diagnostic environment (essential).
• Excellent communication and organisational skills (essential).
• Experience using LIMS and NHS laboratory settings (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Perform a range of routine and specialist Microbiology investigations within a Bacteriology laboratory.
• Process, analyse, interpret, and report microbiological samples in accordance with procedures.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment while ensuring quality standards are met.
• Support day-to-day running of the laboratory and workflow management.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with UKAS, ISO 15189 and quality standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care and service delivery.
• Adhere to health and safety, infection control and governance policies.
