Job summary

Midlothian Council is recruiting a Locum MERRIT Care Support Worker to visit clients in their own homes across Midlothian, delivering high-quality, person-centred support. The role requires SVQ2 in Social Care with progression toward SVQ3, PVG Scheme membership, and a full clean driving license for driving an allocated van.

The salary starts at £17.33 per hour with variable hours negotiated. Experience with safeguarding and complex needs is desirable and support will be provided for registration

We are currently recruiting Locum - Care Support Workers (Homecare MERRIT) to provide high-quality, person-centred care to individuals in their own homes across Midlothian. If you are passionate about supporting people to live independently and with dignity, we want to hear from you. It is desirable you have experience of care work and preference will be given to candidates possessing an SVQ3 qualification in Social Care, a full clean manual driving license is required as driving an allocated van is within the role.

As a Homecare MERRIT Support Worker, you will visit individuals in their own homes to assist with daily tasks and promote independence. The role is vital in helping individuals maintain their wellbeing, dignity and quality of life within familiar surroundings. The role includes supporting people who are nearing end of life to provide dignified care which lets the person remain at home. The team responds to emergency calls responding to the community alarm scheme. This includes supporting the fallen person up using a range of appropriate equipment. These calls need to be dynamically risk assessed and escalated as required. All calls are responded with two Care Support Workers.

KNOWLEDGE

Jobholders must have previous experience of caring for clients with a range of complex needs; and experience of working without direct supervision in a situation requiring self-reliance. Jobholders must possess an SVQ 2 qualification in Social Care and work towards an SVQ 3 in Social Care.

The minimum actual salary for this position is £17.33 per hour.

Responsibilities

This post is considered Regulated Work with Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with Protected Adults.

Successful candidates will require PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Protected Adults, You will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment with Midlothian Council, the cost of which will be met by you.
