Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a locum consultant knee to deliver consultant‑level elective care across designated Trust sites in Leicester. The role supports elective recovery and service development within a multidisciplinary team.

The post requires full GMC registration and eligibility for higher specialist training, with a focus on soft tissue knee procedures, arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction and arthroplasty. 12‑month fixed‑term contract.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration is required.
• Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of interview date.
• MB BS or equivalent.
• MRCS or equivalent.
• Current BLS Certification.
• Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations.
• Higher degree such as MSc, MD or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Deliver consultant‑level elective care within the soft tissue knee service across designated Trust sites.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support elective recovery and service development.
• Manage inpatients and outpatients under the named consultant.
• Participate in outpatient clinics, elective theatre activity and multidisciplinary decision‑making.
• Provide supervision and teaching to junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
• Work with trauma and infection colleagues; no formal on‑call commitment.
• Participate in clinical governance activities including audit, quality improvement and appraisal.
