Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a locum consultant to lead elective knee care, with a focus on soft tissue knee surgery including arthroscopy, meniscal procedures and ligament reconstruction. The post includes outpatient clinics, theatre lists and inpatient responsibilities across designated sites.

The role emphasises multidisciplinary teamwork, clinical governance, audit and CPD with the aim of reducing long waits and improving patient flow.

Qualifications

• MB BS or equivalent is required.
• MRCS or equivalent required.
• Current BLS certification.
• Fully accredited for Higher Specialist Training.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full range of elective knee conditions, including arthroscopy, meniscal surgery, ligament reconstruction and arthroplasty.
• Deliver consultant-level elective knee care across designated Trust sites.
• Take responsibility for inpatients and outpatients under the named consultant's care.
• Contribute to trauma and elective outpatient clinics.
• Contribute to elective operating and theatre lists.
• Take part in multidisciplinary working and clinical decision-making.
• Support service improvement and elective recovery, including long-wait pathways and patient flow.
• Work with trauma and elective colleagues and provide cross-cover in line with service needs.
• Supervise and teach junior doctors, allied health professionals and medical students.
• Take part in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement.
• Comply with Trust requirements for appraisal, revalidation and CPD.
