Job summary

A locum consultant post in general paediatric anaesthesia at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The role includes general anaesthetic lists with pre- and post-operative time, plus a place on the general on-call rota (1 in 16). Fit requires a CCT or completion within six months, and at least seven years' anaesthetic training including a year of advanced paediatric work.

Qualifications

• MBBS/MBChB or equivalent medical degree.
• CCT or within 6 months of CCT (or equivalent).
• Minimum 7 years in a recognised anaesthetic training post.
• 1 year advanced-level training in paediatric anaesthesia at a tertiary paediatric hospital.
• Training in anaesthesia for children with complex comorbidities/congenital abnormalities.

Responsibilities

• Anaesthesia on general paediatric lists with pre- and post-operative work.
• On-call rota participation (1 in 16).
• Reallocate theatre time to emergency surgery during normal hours.
• Teach and train undergraduates and postgraduates.
• Develop research interests in own area of expertise.
• Supervise junior staff.
• Participate in departmental meetings on strategic planning.
• Engage in service review and development.
• Participate in CPD activity and audits.
• Contribute to clinical governance programmes and quality improvement meetings.

Job description

A 12-month locum consultant post in general paediatric anaesthesia at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The core is general paediatric anaesthetic lists with pre- and post-operative time, plus a place on the general on-call rota at 1 in 16. Session content may change as theatre needs shift, and the role invites interest in teaching, research and service development. Fit turns on a CCT or completion within six months, and at least seven years' anaesthetic training including a year of advanced paediatric work.

What the job involves

• Anaesthesia on general paediatric lists, allocated at 1.25 DCC PAs per list to allow for pre- and post-operative work
• Take part in the general on-call rota (1 in 16, class A)
• Reallocate unallocated theatre time to emergency surgery during normal working hours where needed
• Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates
• Develop research interests in own area of expertise
• Supervise junior staff
• Participate in departmental meetings on strategic planning
• Take an active role in service review and development
• Participate in CPD activity
• Initiate and undertake audits within the department
• Take part in the clinical governance programme, including quality improvement meetings, contributing data and implementing agreed recommendations

What’s required
