Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to the occupational therapy service within HMP Grampian and are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Health Care team, working in partnership with the Scottish Prison Service.

This action 15 funded post was funded to improve direct access to mental health support to those residing in HMP Grampian. Based in the prison and working alongside the existing Band 7 Occupational Therapist and as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide an occupational perspective to care planning and service delivery.

Through addressing occupational need, the occupational therapist will enable those residing in HMP Grampian to develop the essential skills to participate in their daily occupations, supporting health, wellbeing, desistence and community reintegration. The service is activity exploring how it can increase its contributions to the public health agenda and delegated project work supporting the development of universal and targeted offerings will therefore be a key component to this post.

The position requires a registered, experienced and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist who has experience working in mental health/ forensic settings (desirable) and has experience working with marginalised or socially excluded groups (desirable). The individual must be able to work autonomously and as part of a team in a complex environment and must be committed to occupation centred, evidence based practice. A valid UK driving licence is desirable.

Monthly formal Supervision, mentoring and appraisal as well as the training of students are integral to the service. You may be required to allocate and supervise work to a support worker.
