Job summary

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is recruiting a solicitor/lawyer to join the Litigation & Regulatory Services Team. You will manage a diverse caseload advising and representing the council in prosecutions, licensing, employment and general litigation.

The role requires advocacy before courts/tribunals, strong communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Flexible, agile working and a supportive team are offered.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has a rare opportunity for a solicitor/ lawyer to join its established Litigation & Regulatory Services Team. This is an exciting chance to work within a supportive multi-disciplinary team of lawyers, providing high-quality legal services across a broad range of contentious matters.

You will manage a diverse caseload, advising and representing the council in matters including;

• prosecutions and regulatory enforcement.
• licensing.
• employment.
• advocacy before courts and tribunals.
• general litigation and dispute resolution.

You will work closely with elected members, senior leaders, officers and external partners providing pragmatic legal advice and legal representation that supports the council's priorities and protects the public interest.

We are looking for a qualified solicitor, barrister or CILEX lawyer with litigation and advoacy practising rights who can demonstrate;

• experience in litigation practice and case management.
• advocacy in courts and/ or tribunals.
• strong communication and negotiation skills.
• the ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• a pro-active, solution-focused and collaboratove approach
• excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.

Ideally you will have proven experience in one or more of the areas of law involving prosecutions, regulatory, licensing and employment.
