Vital Human Resources is seeking an experienced Lineside Civils Supervisor to support rail infrastructure projects around Newcastle, Durham & Darlington. Prior experience, rail qualifications, and a full UK driving licence are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supervising rail civils projects.
  • Strong understanding of Network Rail standards and Sentinel compliance.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Valid SSSTS or SMSTS, PTS and CSCS Gold/Black card are required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate site teams.
  • Ensure all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project programmes.
  • Review and implement Safe Work Packs (SWPs), Work Package Plans (WPPs), RAMS, and permits.
  • Deliver site briefings, task briefings, and Toolbox Talks.
  • Promote compliance with Network Rail standards, Sentinel requirements, and safe systems of work.
  • Liaise with COSSs, Safe Work Leaders, Project Managers, and site stakeholders.
  • Monitor progress, quality, and productivity across all civils activities.
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure all incidents, close calls, and safety concerns are reported and addressed.
  • Manage materials, plant, logistics, and site records.

Lineside Civils Supervisor

Northeast | Rail Infrastructure Projects

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Lineside Civils Supervisor to support the delivery of rail infrastructure projects across Newcastle Durham & Darlington.

Working within a live railway environment, you'll oversee site teams delivering a variety of civils activities including drainage, troughing routes, foundations, access improvements, cable works, retaining structures, earthworks, and asset renewal projects.

This role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and programme delivery, ensuring works are completed in compliance with Network Rail standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate site teams.
  • Ensure all works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with project programmes.

Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience supervising rail civils projects.
  • Valid SSSTS or SMSTS.
  • PTS certification.
  • CSCS Gold Supervisor or Black Manager Card.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Network Rail standards
    • Safe Work Packs and WPPs
    • Sentinel compliance
    • Possessions and access planning
    • Safe systems of work within the rail environment
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
  • COSS or Safe Work Leader competency.
  • First Aid at Work.
  • NRSWA, CAT & Genny, or additional rail competencies.
  • Experience working on Network Rail frameworks or Tier 1 contractor projects.
About You

You'll be a safety-led supervisor with proven experience delivering civils works in a live railway environment. Confident leading teams and managing subcontractors, you'll ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standards.

Experience in lineside drainage, troughing, cable routes, REB/LOC foundations, fencing, access works, earthworks, and rail asset renewals is highly desirable
