Job summary

Network Rail in London is seeking an Asset Engineer to join the Lineside Asset Management team in the Southern Region. You will help deliver safe, reliable railway assets and support strategic interventions while ensuring compliance with standards and policies.

The role requires strong analytical and communication skills, with hybrid working from London, three days in the office and the rest remote or on-site as needed. Excellent development opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Significant infrastructure experience with examination, evaluation, maintenance and repair.
• Sound knowledge of lineside policies, standards and design.
• Understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
• Understanding of Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM).
• Progress towards membership of a relevant professional institution.

Responsibilities

• Strategic oversight of lineside asset management aligned with objectives.
• Oversee inspection, condition assessment and evaluation of lineside assets.
• Develop and maintain lineside asset management plans and priorities.
• Specify and monitor control measures for deferred interventions.
• Support renewal schemes with business cases and sponsorship.
• Ensure renewals are handed over with clear specifications and docs.
• Maintain high-quality asset data and track condition trends.
• Deputise for the Senior Asset Engineer when required.
• Provide specialist guidance to internal teams on asset issues.
• Participate in incident investigations related to lineside assets.
• Engage with local authorities and external partners on strategy.
