Job summary

Cavaghan & Gray, part of the 2 Sisters Food Group in Carlisle, is seeking a Line Assistant to support the line manager in day-to-day production operations. The role involves coordinating the team, equipment and schedules to meet despatch deadlines while upholding safety, quality and hygiene standards.

• Experience of working in a production environment.
• Experience of people management or deputising in this responsibility (The Line Assistant will deputise for the Line Manager in their absence).
• CIEH Level 2 Health & Safety and Food Safety training will be provided.

Job Description

• Assist Line Manager on all aspects of the day to day running of a line / area
• Utilise members of the team, plant and equipment to optimum advantage to ensure maximum efficiency / productivity
• Assist with maintaining highest levels of safety, quality and hygiene
• Assist with introducing and training new starters
• Assist to run the line / area in accordance with the line schedule to ensure despatch transportation deadlines are met
• Key interactions with site functions (inc. H&S, Technical, Hygiene, Engineering and any support services)
• Where applicable, help drive changeovers and minimise downtime
• Deputise for Line Manager, including meetings / projects

Qualifications

• CIEH Level 2 Health & Safety (training will be provided)
• CIEH Level 2 Food Safety for Manufacturing (training will be provided)
• Experience of working in a production environment
• Experience of people management or deputising in this responsibility (The Line Assistant will deputise for the Line Manager in their absence)

Additional Information

• Assist in the start up, checking, running and monitoring of the departmental lines / areas, reporting any issues to the Line Manager
• Delegate tasks to the appropriate team members to utilise productivity on changeovers
• Manage start /break times and job rotation
• Ensure all new employees on line are made welcome and are given ample opportunity to integrate into the production team
• Ensure new employees are given adequate on the job training to allow them to effectively carry out their duties
• Assist Line Manager in managing staff to ensure a spread of experience and skills
• Maintain a safe workplace / environment in line with company policy and rule
• Through leadership and example promote and develop standards of safety
• Maintain and ensure all team members are aware of their responsibility for quality
• Encourage and assist Line Manager to deliver Clean As You Go
• Actively assist on the production line as and when required
• Assisting to uphold health and safety standards
• Supporting the Line Manger in attaining the production plan
