Job summary

Cavaghan & Gray, part of the 2 Sisters Food Group, is based in Carlisle and produces ready meals for leading UK retailers. We are seeking a production operator to ensure pre-start checks, correct setup and shutdown procedures for quality and operator safety, and to help the site hit OEE targets.

The role involves operating production machinery, following SOPs, maintaining 5S standards, and assisting with changeovers to maximise throughput and minimise downtime.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar production role is desirable but not required.
• CIEH Level 2 Health & Safety training will be provided.
• CIEH Level 2 Food Safety for Manufacturing will be provided.
• Focused improvement experience is desirable but not required.
• Previous work in high-speed production is desirable but not required.
• Mechanical or electrical qualification or relevant experience is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out pre-start checks and set up/shutdown procedures to ensure quality and operator safety.
• Maintain SOPs, 5S and standard setups across tooling and processes.
• Keep production machinery running to meet site OEE targets.
• Streamline changeovers to maximise throughput and minimise downtime.
• Perform basic fault finding and report to Engineering via correct systems.
• Carry out basic maintenance and cleaning of tooling and equipment.
• Maintain line standards and asset care in your area.
• Ensure tools and equipment are stored and maintained following 5S.

Job Description

• Ensure that machinery pre-start checks, setting up and shutdown procedures are carried out correctly to ensure quality of product and safety of operators


• Ensure all standard conditions are maintained including Adherence to SMP (overhauls of tooling), SOP procedures and standards setups.


• To keep production machinery running efficiently to allow Operations to hit their target / deadlines in line with site OEE


• To assist maximising production throughput and efficiencies by streamlining changeovers and keeping downtime to a minimum


• Basic fault finding / resolution then escalation and reporting to Engineering as required using the correct reporting systems


• Basic maintenance and cleaning of tooling and process equipment


• Management of line standards including 5s and workboards


• Accountability for asset care in your allocated area.

• Monitoring all work in progress and finished product to ensure it matches acceptable production standards


• To assist maximising production throughput and efficiencies by streamlining changeovers and keeping downtime to a minimum


• Basic fault finding / resolution then escalation to Engineering as required.


• Basic maintenance of tooling and process equipment


• Oiling and greasing of machinery to ensure continued workability once trained.


• Examining and discarding defective goods and packaging components


• Cleaning and checking the machinery after completing production runs ensuring faults are reported and dealt with


• Maintaining records set out by the engineering manager.

Ensuring tools and equipment are stored and maintained following the 5s procedure.
